I think Rotherham is the exception to the norm in Yorkshire, i'd say its Scone as rhymes with cone.
But West Yorkshire say Scon (as rhymes with gone).

    This might help

How about the pronunciation of Scone Palace or the Stone of Scone?

the guardian article also references research by Cambridge Uni
    https://www.cam.ac.uk/research/news/...glish-dialects

Which includes this map of Scone (as rhymes with gone).
    Attachment 16824

Blue is low (i.e. say Scoan / Scone as in cone)
    Orange red is high

Tried to upload a larger image, but keeps it small.
It is slide 5 on the cambridge link above or here is a link direct to the image

Good chart that fc, Interesting that our area is on par with southern Ireland and out of step with most of Northern Britain. Doesnt look to be a class issue based on that. I always thought posh folk said scon but that dunt appear to be true...

Growing up it was scone as in sc own - still is, though so long as someone knows what you mean I don't mind either - now, is that either as in ee ther or as in eye ther?
