I'm not talking about football and the implications behind lost revenue due to no crowds allowed, which has been talked about already, but the positivity or negativity that a crowd can generate.
Before the season started I honestly thought that with us in what I term as 'Our Premier League' which is the championship, that the lack of crowds would very much work in our favour, especially away from home where the bigger crowds cheering on their team were not there, and even at our place where a lot of championship teams would either fill or nearly fill the away end were not there to roust there team.
However, has it worked against us by not having crowds? we are considered the whipping boys in this division and crowds can and do get on their own teams backs if they aren't performing against teams they expect to beat, so what do you think people? ......Thoughts?
I personally think we might have done better if fans were there
Some moan when we shout out but sometimes that might be what they need
Same when we’re cheering them on, I think it gives them that bit extra push
Warney did say at the start that the players didn’t need the fans to motivate them, if he hasn’t changed his mind them he doesn’t know what he’s talking about 😉
Some other clubs though are probably glad fans are not back
More of a leveller for us though in the away games
I think we're doing as well as could be reasonably expected so it's probably swings and roundabouts. I feel we're marginally favoured by the situation. Given that many of the away fixtures would normally be more intimidating, the lack of a crowd has to help us. And I doubt many teams in this league would be intimidated by the thought of a trip to Rotherham, so the lack of a crowd probably isn't so much of an advantage for them.
That was one of my points though Grist especially with regards to the away games because the big home crowds of championship sides can get on their own teams backs if they are struggling against teams such as us who they expect to beat.
Do people think that the pressure is off, to a certain extent, for the big teams when their own crowd cant turn on them if things aren't going well, with no body allowed in to watch?
