Player ratings v Dagenham

It was frustrating to only come away with a point last night but sometimes it just doesn’t happen, and that’s the fear when you fail to take your early chances....Still, it wasn’t an enjoyable performance with plenty of promise, and areas to improve upon.

Slocombe - Solid display, rarely flustered, good distribution, did he tip that free kick onto the post? If he did then it’s an 8....if not, then 7!

DKE - Started really brightly and linked up well with Enzio for the first 30-40 minutes. Credit to Dagenham, they started to nullify the threat and from then on we didn’t get enough balls into the box, opting to pass the ball infield too often....we have the players to get the ball into the box from the byline, I’d love to see us do it more frequently. Good battling performance - 7

Turner - Back to his solid best, won pretty much everything in the air. Welcome back! - 7

Rawlinson - See Turner! - 7

Chicksen - Can only assume he’s not fully match fit. Not the player I was hoping to see. Solid enough at the back, no threat going forward as he’s too keen to pass backwards or inwards. Got exposed a bit in the 2nd half - 6

Doyle - Industrious. The deeper role suits him well and means he can track back easier. Always looks forward and kept us playing at a decent tempo - 7

Reeves - Ok. A bit more energetic than Doyle but less effective in my opinion. Often plays a ball into already congested areas when other players are free. Are these his instructions? Unlucky not to score when he hit the post. Good partnership with Doyle - 7

Rodrigues - Probably my MOTM. Always available to take the ball and be positive in his application with it. Takes it on the half turn and causes problems. A bit weak in front of goal but still exciting to watch. Tired in the 2nd half - 7.5

Sam - The team struggled to get him into the game barring one or two runs but when he runs at defenders you can see they don’t like it but again, in the second half he stopped taking defenders on, instead opting to pass inside to congested areas and often breaking up our attack. Not bad, some good touches, some not so good...plenty to come though - 6.5

Enzio - I was pretty critical of him recently but last night, the first half at least, he really shone for me. Got on the ball a lot and caused problems down the rhs with DKE. He even looked to beat his man and whip in some crosses, why did we stop doing this in the second half? Lost his way later on but still good to see him showing some kind of form. Defended well - 7

Wootton - I like Wootton, and although his hold up play and link up was decent he has to be taking chances like the one late on. That’s the difference come the end of the season - 6.5

None of them managed to make a difference - 6

Ardley - went with an attacking lineup and showed progress with our performance. Tried to win the game with his substitutions - 7

Did anyone see Leigh Curtis’s ratings? You would honestly have thought from the scores and the comments that we had won 5-0.

To be fair though, sometimes you see a modest performance get a convincing score-line and vice versa.

Yes, they made me smile. If we had just drawn 0-0 with Liverpool then maybe.
