    Racism and slavery

Racism and slavery have been going on for 1000's of years going back as far as the Carthaginian Empire, 650 BC, Achaemenid Empire, 550 BC, then the ancient Egyptians, Romans, ancient Persians, the Mughals of India/Pakistan/Afghanistan, many counties of native Africa long before it was prevalent in Western Europe and the Americas.

Unfortunately, it will continue as long as man is on the planet.

You are right Pat and for me and a lot on the West Brom board - taking the knee at matches is a political statement and actually fuelling racism. Football is becoming a farce! Why not a banner - we are United against racism?
As unfortunate as it was Floyd was a criminal scum bag in another country. Didn’t see the same outcry for PC Harper when he was dragged to his death under a car - the guy had just got married! Dele Ali takes the knee but it was ok for him to racially abuse an Asian guy about the Coronavirus. Can you imagine if someone God forbid racially abused Ali!!

There’s too many chip on certain shoulders and there was a recent comment from a black guy - you don’t see many like me in the Board room. Well I see a lot of hard working Asians who are worth billions - they class education as top priority for their kids and look no further than Patel and Rishi in top Government positions - that answers that question.

Pundits and players are generally thick! Rooney saying Millwall supporters were mindless. Well he was more than mindless for s hagging a granny for money! These people are frightened to say the wrong thing when picking up millions as they could be called racist. Remember the owner of Wigan called Whelan who used the word chinky? Well how many say they are getting a chinky for a takeaway. For God sake when I was growing up I had mates of all colours and still do but we engage in friendly banter between ourselves.

I hope one player soon as the guts not to take the knee just like James McClean refuses to wear a poppy. That does not mean they are racist!

I would turn my back on taking the knee but would support a general campaign to kick racism out!! Too many people are pathetic liberals like Linekar and it’s b ull**** for publicity!

What next in football - some kind of ritual for the disabled and those who are gay too!!

I will look forward to turning the television on this Saturday after taking the knee but hope you don’t batter us!

racism and discrimination will never be erradicated in my eyes, its not just whites that are racist, but its only whites who get called out for it.
I have witnessed first hand racism from black people towards a white person in the workplace, and when the complaint was made, HR didnt dare do anything.

I hate the BLM thing, it gives people the idea that ONLY black lives matter, i have seen it with online videos too, a group of BLM protestors shouted "Black lives matter" to a policeman, he replied "all lives matter" they again shouted back "no they dont, just black lives"
    there lies the problem.

A local Chinese restaurant nearby is called "little fat buddah" Buddah is a religious deity ffs

can you imagine if a shop was opened and called "skinny little Prophet Mohammad" or "flip flop wearing Christ's" there would be hell on.

My step father is from Ghana, my brother in law is from Saudi, my wife is Spanish, my neices and nephews are mixed race, yet we all spend Christmas together, and make no mistake, once the booze gets flowing, we all take the piss out of each other and it ALWAYS ALWAYS gets racial, and we all laugh, we all laugh at each others stereotypes and religions and skin. Nobody gets offended and we have a great time.

So why is it acceptable on some occasions and not others, its got to the point where people complain for the sake of it.

I saw a guy on Sky saying Black people should represent 50% of managers WTF!! they account for less than 4% of the population.

If i lived in Africa, i woiuldnt expect 50% of people within football to be white.

Good post Tanya, and you of all people see it from the inside.

I do think it has gone too far for too long. It is sad that it is there at all but it isn't helped by being over easy on one side at the expense of any other.

For instance how many white people would be seriously offended by being called a "Honkie" by a non-white person. I doubt very few.

In fact, I had a Jamaican lad work for me about 30 years ago. He was a former boxer who was just on the tier bellow Benn, Eubank, and Michael Watson, (was due to have a match with Watson but it was called off because of injury)

His surname was Wallace and he claimed to be a direct descendant of William Wallace and as proof, he would show red hairs in his beard.

We used to have long intense chats on racism and colour and he used to laugh and say if he was ever insulted he used to put the Windies accent on and reply "Yus, I is a black honkie and prettier than you" Mind you he was such a big fit lad I doubt that many would insult him.

We both finalised that colours were just that. He wasn't a black man but a rich chestnut brown colour and our lot weren't white but a funny mix of pinky/grey.

Hi Pat, you're totally right, a colour is just a colour. I agree most white people would'nt get offended by being called a racist name like "honkie" and i think the ones that would get offended are the ones who love a drama.

Honestly mate, the amount of shlt i get when my family go to Spain is beyond belief, my daughter wont go anymore because of it, she and one of my sons are blonde and blue eyed like me and my other 2 sons are dark complection and have all the Spanish features like the wife (shark lifeless eyes i call it, drives her mad)

the locals HATED me because i am married to one of their's. I hear them talking, calling me mestizo ingles ( english mongrel ) and my all time favourite is what the local shltheads called me polla blanca la comopierna de una moscs ( has a white dlck like a fly's leg ) which is funny as ****, wow i thought the curtains were closed

Dont get me wrong, for years i was plssed off because i wasnt seen as just me, they hated me because of England, the way our tourists treat them, drunken louts in england tops on the plss, their entire country thinks we are all like that. I couldnt give two ****s about skin colour but i hated it because i was hated because of a stereotype that had nothing to do with colour.
I suppose gingers hate that they all smell of piss kind of thing.

My stepdad always says, being called the "n" word has never bothered him, from a young age he was always taught that the word itself means nothing, but what you believe you are and what you answer to is all that matters.

I am completely against racism in the fashion that someone would be overlooked for a job because of their ethnicity and things like that, but actions and words are completely different things. If you cant deal with words then you may as well give up now because life is waaay harder than words

Can understand what you mean Tanya. One of my nieces is married to a Spaniard and lives out there a few miles north of Madrid but she speaks the lingo so fluently that the locals think she is from another part of Spain so she has settled well.

You mention the "n" word but it is only in recent times that the word has been deemed derogatory. In fact, it initiated from the 1700s when Africans were a rarity to be seen in this country and most of the uneducated over here thought all of Africa was Nigeria, the only African country known, thus the name derived from there merely as a description.

Looking at it from the funny side when my eldest son was nine the school he was in was taken over by a headmistress who would have made Corbyn look like a royalist. I had been doing surveys at a small school a few miles away and impressed by the Head and the general set up so we got him a place there. Halfway through the term an African prince who had just come to this country put his son in there.

The following weekend I asked Tomas what the lad was like and all I could get out of him was that he spoke good English, was clever at ball control and had "carpet hair". No mention of him being black as the ace of spades.

To be honest, Pat, I think it's always been used in a derogatory manner....it's only in recent times that that has stopped being acceptable.

I don't think always Zip. Originally they used it to describe Nigerians or so I was told at school in the 50's, perhaps as southerners here would describe anyone from Teeside to Northumberland as Geordies and not just those born on the north or south side of the Tyne.

Just looked it up on google and they say something similar. However, it came about it's totally unpleasant

I think we can all agree that the offensive word was coined by ignoramuses all of those years ago and is only used by ignoramuses today.
