    James wants to stay longer

Swansea City v Barnsley - Loanee aims to extend Oakwell stay

HAVING worked at Leicester City under the likes of Brendan Rodgers, Claudio Ranieri and Nigel Pearson, Matty James is someone who can judge a good – or bad – head coach when he sees one.

Part of a Barnsley side who have won eight out of 12 league matches under Valerian Ismael, it is no surprise that the loan midfielder rates the Frenchman pretty highly.

It is the devout hope of James that he will be able to work with Ismael for a further spell beyond his initial loan which ends next month.

Talks are likely to begin shortly with James’s parent club Leicester City with the Lancastrian understandably keen to remain at Oakwell and continue working with Ismael.

James said: “It is different for me in terms of style of play, but this team is working exceptionally well and he has come in and got the best out of every single player.

“The intensity we press at and the work we put in each day and for each game is one thing I have noticed.

“He has a plan for each and every single team and it can be different depending on what the other team is doing and then the focus comes back to Barnsley and what he needs to do in that game. He prepares you for that and you try and execute our game-plan.

“I am enjoying it under him and hopefully that will continue.”

After successive wins against Wycombe, Sheffield Wednesday and Preston, the Reds face a step up against a Swansea side at a Liberty Stadium venue where the club have never won.

It is a test which comes at a timely moment and will provide a further barometer of the progress of Barnsley against a Swans team, who have lost just once in nine home matches this term.

On what faces Barnsley, who have not won in Swansea since August, 1974, Ismael said: “We are always looking forward to playing against the best players and teams and it is the same thing for the lads.

“They want to make the next step and need a forceful performance against a side with a strong possession-based philosophy.”

Can't see why this can't happen personally , James is enjoying his time here and playing , he's surplus to requirements at Leicester City .

I suppose the only thing that could thwart it is that another club may want to buy James in January and they get summat for him rather than he leaves as a free agent next summer .

Could we ourselves be in a position to buy the lad ? .

What fee are we dealing with here ? .

What is an acceptable wage for James ? .

Certainly his 40k a week days are gone and he's 6 months from walking away from the Kingpower for nowt .

Absolutely no resale value in him though .

I see another loan spell here but in all honesty I'd be amazed if it becomes permanent .

Cheer's for that ESR - For sure every one a Barnsley supporter would love him to stay at Oakwell - over to Chien Conway & Co what's the % chances? With what's gone on in the last couple of years with our current owners + Covid this year not that confident but then on the flip side we all know how much players transfer values including salaries have changed and still changing = reducing. Will be as much about James personal aspirations as our owners. Along with Mowatt we will shortly see the direction of OUR club. Can see Leicester looking for a chunk of money of his salary to stay with us for the remainder of the season if no other offers come in.

Inadvertently we are actually putting him in the shop window .

He's proving his fitness and ability and it won't be going unnoticed by other championship or even a few low end PL clubs .

It's fair enough he likes it here and loves playing for Val but money talks louder unfortunately .

Just thinking Chop , I'm all for James remaining at the club for the rest of the season to stabilise our efforts going in to the second half of the season .

However I like the look of the lad Ronal Palmer and going forward and taking in to account the financial package it would require to sign James permanently maybe just maybe we could possibly use any investment in to the squad in other areas .

Will Leicester try to buy Styles and use James as part of the deal?

It wouldn't be to my liking Perky on a number of levels .

1 , Styles to remain here for the duration of this season to increase his value .

2 , We need cash only for Styles to use to improve the quality of the squad .

3 , Leicester would deflate the value of Styles and over inflate the value of James in my opinion knowing James was a good fit here .

£10m plus Matty James would be the only offer I'd consider plus a 15% sell on clause and an England cap too at an agreed percentage .

Got to be strong with Styles in my opinion leaving the club and not be the pushover we've seen in the past .

Which is probably the thoughts of our owners too Animal - to be fair good we have so many options in mid field as we all know we need to strengthen in defence as numbers low with a LB a priority and some bright spark up front
