That team we had possibly more taleneted than 1994 but maybe a lot of youngsters. How we lost that final can only be described by freddys double post 5 minutes after French goal disallowed. It started to feel very uneasy. Big Dunc froze and they scored. When Bowman scored was sure we would grab the game as o' neil looked on fire what happened in next 10 mins was bizarre. At 3-1 down i couldnt believe what i was seeing. sure we were going to get hammered for some reason. O'neil scored soon after though iirc - cue total bedlam in 90 mins and malpas should have won it and even equalised in injury time as well as clarkie. Ach made 94 even sweeter but that was a strange strange final.

French's disallowed goal was a travesty. Similar thing happened with Luggy's world class volley vs Oldco at Hampden.

Unfortunately, them was the rules. But a crying shame that neither goal stood. Esp for French and Luggy.

As for the rest of that game, I think we were slightly the better team overall. But that was a decent 'well side too.

Malpas should have scored. His testimonial season too. Time was running out and for once he lost his composure.

Felt sorry for wee Jim too. That elusive SC win he craved never came.

I'm glad we took part in what was probably one of the most exciting SCFs ever. But I have never been able to shake the feeling that we were the better football team and it was another chance missed to bin the hoodoo.

We got done that day because the idiot in the middle David Syme allowed Luc Nijholt to go about kicking phuck out of anything in a white jersey. Nijholt shouldn’t have made it to 45 mins never mind the end of extra time. And as for the foul on Main for their fourth.................

Would put Jacksons' equaliser in my Top 3 United moments ever for pure excitement. Ended up at the bottom of the back stand from just past the middle!

Alan Main, Brian Welsh, Ray McKinnon, Badger, John O’Neill, Big Dunc, Darren Jackson, Paddy Connolly, Christian Dailly et al should have been the backbone of Jim’s next great team. If he had kept that group and added to it, as he did with the eventual title winners, then I have no doubt they would have gone on to achieve great things, Regretfully, freedom of contract, Rangers spending money they didn’t have, the Taylor Report etc all combined to cause their break up. Sp, so sad.

I didnt rate Main as highly as others (crosses mainly) and think he was a small part of our issue that day but hey ho he was. I have forensically analysed the french dissallowed goal and at the exact time of pass Jackson was on side. Fair enough to linesman though it was stupid of Jackson. Yes a stupid offside rule but hey ho. John O'Neil and Paddy Connolly should have been the new sturrock and milne (ish). Jacksons equaliser i ended up trying to get on pitch lol. Ok GB I bet you havent changed a bit

Its a strange final but St Mirren irks me more and the celtic two even more. Anyway now i have St Johnstone 2014 as the final that rakes me the most so somehow i give credit to well for that. As for Nijholt even then those tackles were bookings and sending off Hated David syme the lodge boy, dead now. One of our lead referees in 80s apparently - anyway with the handshake was tbh
