Why we should not play the National Anthem before games.

I think playing the National Anthem before the England games is an insult to the other members of the United Kingdom whose anthem it is also.

Each of Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland have their own beautiful anthems which refer to their own individual countries so surely it is about time we changed to something like "Land of Hope and Glory" or any other suitable pieces instead.

Anyone got any suggestions as to what would be suitable to play before the England games. Something tuneful but also stirring. Each of the other Nations of the U.K. has anthems to play which are spine-tingling and patriotic.

Northern Ireland national anthem is God Save the Queen as well. I couldn't give a shìt what the other countries in the UK think. They can do or say what they want but the English are limited over fear of upsetting anyone. Not for me. Fùck em. Leave it as it is. When I am at England games I sing it with pride as I am a proud English man.

The same that they are proud Irish, proud Welsh and a proud Scot. Difference is, they are allowed to be proud whereas we are classed as racist knuckle draggers if we fly the flag of St George or sing along to our anthem.

My mistake, you are right G1974. They play the UK anthem. They do play "Son of Ulster" at the Commonwealth Games and other events.

Have to say I can't agree with getting rid of "God Save The Queen" Pat.

It sends tingles down my spine when I hear it, and when you hear the whole crowd roaring it . . . love it.

I once read a story about how the U.S. wanted to use "Land of hope and glory" as their anthem but were stopped by the British for some unknown reason. Brilliant to listen to when they play it at the Proms in the Albert Hall.

It really is Cannylad and it is really stirring.

But for Jammy, the National Anthem would be OK for a fully British team but as I pointed out when we are playing say the Scots or Welsh then this is also their National Anthem. It isn't exclusive to England.
