England v Italy Euro 20 Final Match Thoughts

My first England final as I've said previously I was only four years old in 1966 so it rather passed me by .

I thought I'd never see the day to be honest and its been a very long time coming to say the least with plenty of heartache and disappointment along the way .

That said making the final is one thing now let's win the bloody thing .

Italy are on a long unbeaten run , 35 games I believe .

Just like the gods of football to decide the one they eventually lose will be the most important one .

However it's too tight to call is this and could go all the way to penalties .

I think its been a fantastic tournament considering covid issues and lower crowds allowed. Before a ball was kicked my choice was Italy but always hoped England would come through. Now we have got through (fully deserved in my eyes) if we can match the patience of Italy and the pace in which they break we have a great chance of winning. We too have a solid defence and lightening quick players so because of home advantage I'm going for England.

Watch Italy. they always break with 3 players overloading one flank with another runner down the middle or running diagonally from the other flank.

They do this once they break down the opposition in their own half. Against the Danes we gave the ball away too many times in the areas that Italy look to exploit. We need to be very careful and keep a close knit back 3 so there arent any seams for these runners to exploit.

I think they are beatable but so are we. its going to be tough. A cat and mouse game I suspect with both teams looking to minimise risk. Might be a bit dull for large chunks of the match.

Looking forward to the rolling about and Lazarus recoveries from the Ities

50/50 for me and I can see it being decided by penalties. Whatever happens I dare say that the future of the England team looks bright. The attacking talent coming thru is frightening

In my opinion Italy have a better midfield than we do but overall I think we just edge it .

I'm warmed by the way Spain were able to create the chances they did in the semi final and if they'd taken them they would have beaten the Italians by possibly a couple of goals .

That's the key for me , we have to take our chances tomorrow night .

It's set up beautifully tomorrow night for a classic final and I'm a firm believer if it's your time then it's your time and I've thought so since the Germany game that it's finally our time .

    However .............. ?????
