    Positives/Negatives from Villa

    Positives:

    Erm....this is gonna be hard...

First half showed some good atta......nah, can't put that...a football team attacking as a positive, ffs

Honestly, not taking the piss, what are the positives from the game? Our stream (or, rather, our wifi) was shocking so it was canny hard to tell but it looked like we were having a go in the first half?(I know I said I can't put that but I honestly can't see anything else and, given how defensively Bruce has set us up in the past, I'm trying to give him some credit).

    Negatives:

VAR...no Villa players or fans thought it was a pen and, more importantly, neither did the ref so was it a clear and obvious error? Not when you consider how close the player was to Lascelles when he headed the ball. Plus, for the 'offside', when the lines are that close, there needs to be a margin of error in favour of the attacking team because, much as the attacker/defender part is a matter of mathematics, the judgement about when the ball is considered to have left the players foot for the pass is still a subjective one.

The ref...not sour grapes because we deserved to lose...was a homer. And how he didn't consider their 'keeper's neck-high assault on Wilson wasn't worthy of a red is beyond me. He was massively out of control and clattered Wilson in the head-hugely dangerous.

Our lack of defensive shape...gaps all over the place, conceded again to an unmarked player, Schar turning away from the shot...poor all round.

Our midfield's lack of bite or creativity.

Our forwards-as we knew, when Wilson or ASM aren't on their game, we've got nowt.

    Bruce's subs....sigh.

Sorry for the balance of positivity vs negativity...maybe someone can help me out?

We were the better side in the first half the goal right on half time knocked us for six, after the dodgy penalty to make it 2-0 the game was over. We kept going at least and should have had that penalty, Huge negative was the referee and var who were busy filling in their villa season ticket application forms, their keeper was disgusting with the challenge on Wilson it was another schumacher style challenge no intention to get the ball and what did that nice fair referee do ? give him a yellow. Lets be honest villa were pretty poor themselves yesterday how many efforts on goal did they have? better sides then us will tear them apart. we need a huge improvement for saturday after watching southampton earlier.

    I got nothing.

But that ref made things a lot harder for us that felt fair.

We didn't deserve much from it but it felt very like that Vile got away with stuff that our players got penalised for.

I know we've only played two games but it's a bit concerning we haven't picked up any points with close to our strongest team. God help us if/when ASM, Wilson and Willock get injured

    Tons of positives:

    1. It's only 2 games into the season, so plenty of time to get it right still
    2. Woodman wasn't really at fault for either goal, so that suggests if our 4th choice keeper isn't too bad that we can expect improvements once we get Dubravka fit.
    3. Wilson and ASM didn't get injured.
    4. Joelinton didn't start.
    5. Major decisions could have gone the other way, so on another day we might have (undeservedly) taken something from this game.
    6. New kit looks nicer than I thought it would.
    7. Danny Ings is in my fantasy football team, and I'm 1st and 2nd in the two leagues I'm in.

OK, so I'm reaching... but it used to be the whole point of the thread to have positives so we have to put something up here still!
