    Burnley's Best Team.

I was just reading on Burnley Express website where they were nominating the best Burnley team posibbilites for current and previous players.

It would be interesting to see what we think on this forum.

For me I have been watching Burnley FC from 1954 to the present time so I would like a 4-5-1 formation
    Macdonald
    Trippier Tarkowsky Davis Angus
    Connelly McIlroy Adamson De-Four Thomas
    Austin

Must admit Alf, I had forgotten about Willie Irvine.

With Jimmy Mac and Stephen Defour able to thread passes through I was tempted to put Ings instead of Austin

There are many combinations of players to use,I will have a think about it.

This argument has been raging since time immemorial and it really is impossible to go on anything other than personal opinion.

Tommy Lawton and George Beel must feature but we have hardly anyone left who could have seen them play, so we have to rely on statistics to show their worth.

I saw my first game in 1958 and will vote accordingly:
    Blacklaw
    Trippier Waldron Adamson Elder
    Connelly O'Neil McIlroy Coates
    Irvine Pointer.

Apologies to all of the truly great Burnley players I have not selected.

Agreed Alf, it's almost impossible to select a best eleven.

Wow. That is a toughie. I am limiting my choices to players who have played in the old First division and the PL.

    In goal: Adam Blacklaw

Back four: Kieran Tripper, Alex Elder, Colin Waldron and Jimmy Adamson

Midfield: Willie Morgan, Steven Defour, Jimmy McIlroy, Brian Pilkington

    Forwards: Willie Irvine, Danny Ings

If you were the Manager with that lot on the books and all fit God help you after you have put the team sheet up.You'd have a queue outside your Office door longer than the petrol queue on Monday at Asda.
