And that’s just the ones that have got out, I.e. not Chesterfield, Wrexham and Stockport.

In my opinion it’s the toughest league to get out of, 1 auto, inconsistent players ability/performances meaning that sometimes it just comes together for a season with the likes of Sutton and Barrow and other teams on paper that should do well faulter.
They need to put it to 2 autos as that would be fair, but after listening to that Ollie Bayliss he said doubtful now after covid as it showed the frailties of NL clubs finances and EFL would hesitate relegating more of its membership clubs into it.

But in that list there are eight examples of clubs who went back up quicker than us.

At the moment I can’t see that number stopping at eight.

Almost all got out in 5 seasons or less, so by that yardstick we ought to be back in the FL by 2024/25 at the latest.
Will be a shocker if we take longer than Mansfield (who took 5).

Looking at the bottom of tier 4, we're likely to get two more traditional names dropping down as it stands. Makes the fixture list a little less depressing but doesn't make it any easier to get out.

At this point in time the hope I have is for us to follow in the footsteps of Luton once they got promoted out of this league, although I'd like us to get out of this league quicker than them as it took five years to get out. They actually finished lower every season until their fourth season in which they finished 7th their lowest position at this level before being champions the season after.

    Luton
    Season 5 - 5th tier 1st/24 Champions
    Season 4 - 5th tier 7th/24
Season 3 - 5th tier 5th/24 lost play off final
Season 2 - 5th tier 3rd/24 lost play off final
    Season 1 - 5th tier 2nd/24

    Notts County
Season 2 - 5th tier 5th/24 lost play off semi final
Season 1 - 5th tier 3rd/24 lost play off final

A simpler table showing how many seasons it took from least to most, includes Barnet, Macc, Cheltenham and also Halifax who I forgot. (1) means first spell after first relegation

    1. Bristol Rovers
    1. Carlisle United
    1. Cheltenham Town
    1. Darlington (1)
    1. Lincoln City (1)
    1. Shrewsbury Town

    2. Barnet (2)
    2. Colchester Utd
    2. Leyton Orient
    2. Torquay United (1)

    3. Tranmere Rovers

    4. Barnet (1)
    4. Chester (1)
    4. Hartlepool United
    4. Oxford United

    5. Doncaster Rovers
    5. Exeter City
    5. Halifax Town (1)
    5. Luton Town
    5. Mansfield Town

    6. Grimsby Town (1)
    6. Lincoln City (2)
    6. Macclesfield Town (1)

    8. York City (1)

    9. Cambridge United
    9. Hereford United (1)

Currently out for. (including this season)
    1. Gimsby Town
    1. Southend United
    3. Notts County
    3. Yeovil Town
    4. Barnet (3)
    4. Chesterfield
    6. York City (2)
    8. Torquay Utd (2)
    9. Aldershot (2)
    10. Hereford (2)
    11. Stockport
    12. Darlngton (2)
    13. Chester (2)
    14. Wrexham

Newport and Wimbledon had to start again from the bottom or near bottom of the pyramid.

No it’s not looking good at the moment and I would be surprised if there’s been any other season before this one where clubs have invested so much.
For whatever reason I’ve become at ease with the current situation on the fact I doubt the owners or manager will leave this season so it’s going to be a case what will be will be.

Has the 5th division ever been as competitive as this season? I doubt it very much. Three clubs spending big to try to get out, one of them bankrolled by a Hollywood superstar (and over 9k at the game last night). Yet again, we have picked the very worst time to be at a low ebb.

This is nothing new. Every time we drop a level or stagnate, more and more clubs get bigger and better than us.

The teams that have gone up recently are doing well, Harrogate are second in div.2 Barrow 7th, Sutton are 11th but will go 4th if they win there game in hand and Hartlepool 13th.
