    Nick Pope

On Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope: "I think Pope is a top goalkeeper, I know from training with him at England. I should have told the lads before the game to put it hard and low, anything up top he’s probably one of the best in the world at saving them. He’s a top keeper and a great lad as well."

Nick gets more praise from England team mate Declan Rice than he does from the England manager. Says it all really.

Totally agree with you Outwood, it is not only Southgate's take on the goalkeeping role that puzzles me but also his central defenders.

Only one goal conceded in the last 3 games and that was because of a stroke of bad luck when Nick collided with Schar last week.

He should have stopped on his line, like Tom used to do.

Sub : I do not call what happened last weak 'bad luck'. I would think Nick should have punched the ball away.
He did judge the flight of the ball when it came over, but 9 times out of 10 ,lets say he would have caught it ,no problem. Nick has the height ,I think running (?) caught in a crowd of players he should have punched the ball away.( I think Nick has the confidence to catch these balls which he judges correctly,) but, a mistake it happens, and cost us that game !

You can never be sure Balan, we almost scored against Newcastle when Berg hit the post, and that came about as a direct result of Dubrovka punching the ball out. He got lucky, the ball only hit the post, he got away with it, Nick wasn't so lucky. So two keepers come off their line for the ball, result, one goal, one post hit. Tom had the right idea, stay on your line and let the defenders deal with the crosses, and the Newcastle game proved him right.

He is a very reliable keeper, but his one attribute stupid Gareth probably wants is distribution... Stupid Gareth would prefer a skittish crackers Everton keeper. who is poor as a shot stopper but a decent passer of the ball.

Pope need to improve on is distribution - and play for a top 6 club then he will be England's number 1, same for Tarks.. a move to Spurs he would be a England regular
