Electrification Of Old Cars ( DeLorean )

I found this a fascinating watch on Vintage Voltage on Quest TV station tonight.

A guy in Malvern had his very tired DeLorean completely refurbished and also had it converted to electric using a Tesla power unit.

As I've mentioned on here previously I've contemplated buying a MK1 Ford Capri but the thought of driving a 50 year old car from an engine and handling perspective has held me back.

It's the actual look of my old Ford Capri that I so loved, I'm not a petrolhead or a purist so I'm going to pursue this same route as the guy did with his DeLorean.

Before I watched this show I'd found a lovely MK1 earlier today quite local to me and I'm viewing it on Tuesday.

I've already contacted these guys at Vintage Voltage to see if they can do the conversion for me.

I know the owners club purists will think it the work of the Devil himself but I really don't care, the thought of having that car with 2022 drivability I find an exciting prospect.

Take a look at the bit of YouTube below on the DeLorean conversion.

I can see this being big business for these conversion companies. Loads of classics will need electric batteries if they still want to drive em. I read somewhere that these conversions can be anything from £30,000 upwards.

I know what you mean about having the best of both worlds so you get the classic car body but with modern ride and power/performance. Def. not a purist thing but imagine a Ferrari Dino 246GT, an E-type coupe, Lamborghini Miura, Aston Martin Vantage, 68 Shelby Mustang or Iso Grifo done up like that! Only thing that would bother me with an electric power plant in any of these would be the noise-or lack of. Having said that I do remember someone used to make a kit that you could buy that made your crappy 1.6 sound like a V8 muscle car so maybe I'd have to be a saddo and get one of these too🤔

Anyhow, hope your viewing goes well!

Hi Mick, check out this company https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3KmcAO5Xmc
    I'm a big fan of MGB's I've had 5, 2 roadsters A V8 Gt plus 2 other Gt one which I did a nut and bolt restoration.
If I could get in and out one now I would love an electric one.
I watched a program in the week that Mini are doing official conversions on the old mini's and will store the old drivetrains for you.
    Another good company https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvyCetgy_os
