    Wigan Athletic Post Match Thoughts

A 1-1 draw sees us remain 6pts clear of Wigan who barring a feast of goals cannot catch us at the top of the league. I thinks that's an outcome most of us would have taken heading into a difficult match in difficult conditions. According to Ronnie we got a bit lucky with them having a 2nd goal disallowed just before we grabbed the equaliser but on balance it looks like we held our own and proved we (as do Wigan) belong in the top 2.

    Thoughts?

Great game for the neutral end to end with no final product really

    2 great goals each team.

On balance a draw a fair result.

    Mom ogbene or rathbone

Rathbone for me. Lost ball a lot but made up for it with the goal. Ogbene needs to learn how to cross a ball. He also needs to stop going to ground trying to win a free kick, he isn’t fooling anyone especially the ref.

Happy enough with the point. Glad we came out after halftime with greater composure on the ball and finding each other with passes. The break seemed to calm everyone down as it was pretty ragged and error strewn in the first 45. Fantastic strike by Ollie, I did not expect that result when he lined it up!

Slight lack of ambition by Wigan, particularly when drawing? Hard to say. Part of me thought so given they are 2nd, not a bottom of the league dweller. Could of been 3 points behind but on the other hand it could of been 9 so it is understandable. Frustrating but I get it.

MOTM either Ollie or Wes for me.

Very tight game & I’ll take the point to maintain the Francis Rossi.
    Congratulations also to Dave Fellowes.
Great pitch. Terrific getting the game on.

    Very happy tonight.

Who was that great big goon that was gobbing off at someone on the final whistle ?

He looked like a right prick!

We weren't at our best tonight, mainly because Wigan adopted the spoiling tactics that we've seen one or two times already this season and it seems to work because it disrupts any rhythm that we try to get going. I don't like to see it. I was expecting a good game but we never got into our stride and they scored a very good goal from outside the box, but the marking on the goalscorer was poor because he had plenty of time to get his shot away. We were better in the second half as we usually are kicking toward our fans and Ollie pulled a brilliant shot out of nowhere, a little bit further out from where Wigan scored their goal. It was mainly backs to the wall as far as Wigan were concerned but we couldn't get a winner, and quite frankly I got the feeling that both camps were happy with the draw, so it's "as you were" and we kick on from here still six points clear of our nearest rivals, Wigan.

Was quite glum and couldn't see us scoring up to the goal and then thought we'd push them back, especially after their midweek game. But disappointed that we seemed to quickly run out of steam and they came back strong towards the end.

Two very similar teams, with similar ways of playing only breached by two wonder goals.

Disappointed than Ben went missing for long periods again. He makes such a difference when he's on it but form can be patchy. Dan a bit off it tonight but Wigan, like us keep it so tight and asks so little room to pass into that it stifles the passing of even good players. Fair player to them (and us).

I'd have been happy with a point before the game. Happy with the pressure we put them under leading up to the equaliser, we kept pressing and creating possibilities without looking like scoring but we deserved the equaliser on the overall pressure we kept up. The 6 points we keep between us is *****. Keeps pressure on them and hopefully they will blow out against the teams they have games in hand to. We need to regain consistent form again - we're remaining brilliantly stubborn, hard to beat and grinding great results out but we need to regain the flair and midfield dominance.

It was MacLean again. Rather argue and fight with a fan other than shake hands with Warne.
The fan will no doubt get a 10 match ban.

Good point. Shame the clean sheet run came to an end but they are a very good side. They left Keane on the bench in a massive game.
Oggy did well doubled up on. I was impressed with Tutu when he came on.
Icky struggled with that Murphys movement but Wiles didn’t give Power a kick.
