    Jimmy Carr

Know a lot of people who are fans and part and parcel of many comedians routines is to sail close to the wind which is fine but wtf was he thinking about with those comments about the "positive" of the holocaust being the murder of thousands of gypsies? Aside from joking about the Holocaust in the first place, if the point is about negative impact of "gypsies" there is a world of difference between Romani and Sinti communities who were victims of this genocide and those sections of the "travelling" community who bring any animosity on themselves today by their behaviour. You certainly cannot tar all with same brush but there are plenty of examples today in this country of certain "travellers" causing criminal damage/ thieving/anti-social behaviours etc but to equate them to those Romani/Sinti is beyond being tone deaf. Still no apology though Jimmy for such crass remark?

Agree, Romany gypsies are are very respectful, cause no trouble and wherever they park their vehicles/caravans leave no mess. The complete opposite to the majority of travellers who show little respect and leave wherever they stay looking like the local tip. Mind you, don't rate Jimmy Carr anyway.

I think a few comedians are going balls up now to be anti-woke and their attitude is I will be as offensive as I like due to freedom of speech and as long as it cannot be construed as a hate crime they can do it. It might be in very bad taste and they will always offend some people but if you don't like his act then just don't go and see him and if you know he is appearing on TV then don't watch.

I like comedians to sail close to the wind but this was madness. Wasn't funny!

You know what you’re going to get with Jimmy Carr.

If you’re likely to take offence watch re runs of Morcambe and Wise.

Agree to a point Mick. Most comedy is rooted in truths or degrees of truth which is what makes it funny in the first place and such observations can be offensive to a lot of people whether that is "toilet" humour, political satire or observations on religion, gender or race. The point is that they are generally rooted in truths so that we laugh at them precisely because we know that we maybe shouldn't do for sake of social politeness or political correctness but we recognize the element of truth in them. Jimmy Carr's remarks in this case were not rooted in truths and he almost certainly knew it so agree with Joy Division that he seems to have set out to just be deliberately offensive for the sake of it and personally can't find that funny.

Exactly Mick, and its the same as people watching and then taking offense at Bernard Manning, Chubby Brown, & Frankie Boyle etc.

Their style of comedy obviously aims to offend, and I find it funny most of the time. Each to their own of course.

I don't actually like Jimmy Carr if I'm honest, I find there's something deeply unlikeable about him from a personal point of view so I rarely watch him which is really my point.

I think he's supremely talented at his art though, something of a genius but just not someone I warm to and some of hisstuff makes me cringe.

I can watch Peter Kay stuff over and over again though and it still makes me laugh every time and even though he uses some bad language he doesn't tell hateful stuff like Carr and Boyle.

Boyle does make me laugh though.
