There may be a few on here who follow Halesowen Town. I've just been told of the sad passing of Geoff, an unsung hero of the great early 80's team, Mick, I am sure you will know him as he lived just around the corner from you. Another gone too early. Condolences to his wife, Children and Brother. RIP Geoff.
R.I.P Geoff. Condolences to friends and family
Just spoke to my mate Rob who played for Geoff.
He’d had MND for the last two years, it’s an horrific disease which I’ve lost two friends to personally at 43 and 46.
Hi Mick,
Horrible coincidence but just been round the crem with Jayne and Geoff's wife, brother and two kids were there because it was the anniversary of his mom's death. Good job Jayne knew what to say because I couldn't speak. she told us he'd been diagnosed the Christmas before last but kept it to a few close friends and family. Said he fought it to the last and really didn't want to go. Fcn vile disease.
Hi mate,
Pass on my best wishes to Jayne, I hope you’re both well?
MND has to be one of the worst ways to go.
One of the best and physically fittest players I ever played with was a well known local lad called Ada Williams, ridiculously handsome and a physique from the gods........women tripped over themselves trying to get at him.
When he was about 37 he started getting the first symptoms and he lasted 5-6 years, it totally ravaged him.
Another friend first had symptoms in the May, was diagnosed in the August and was gone by October, it took him quickly but was no less of a horror.
One of Geoff’s ex players was a lad I discovered in Sunday football, Rob Taylor who played for Geoff at Lye and for Gary Hackett at Stourbridge.
Rob played for Geoff around 2002-2004 and he’s just told me what a lovely bloke Geoff was and a real class act.
He also said that Geoff could still take the p I s s out of the players on the pitch, he was still that good even then, they couldn’t get the ball off him! 😎
How nice to be remembered in such a stellar way.
Condolences to all his family and friends.
