ot - Are we on the brink of war ?

Russians have just crossed the border in to Eastern Ukraine and look set to invade the whole country within possibly hours .

This is extremely worrying to say the least .

I recently watched a documentary series, Battleships at sea, HMS Northumberland tracking Russian Submarines and ships and Aircraft , at one point the Russian Sub was just a few miles from Britain's Nuclear base at Faslane ,obviously flexing their muscle's , This lot are a real danger make no mistake about that ,
    worth watching that series

    Thank goodness.
Imagine right now Jeremy Corbyn in No. 10 with Dianne Abbot as his advisor.

Abbot only last week on Twitter saying that Keir Starmer is another war monger like Blair.
As Starmer has supported the stance the government has made on Russia.

Another example of the far left only supporting the democracy of a country when it suits their agenda.

Not sure what point tha mekkin Nudger.

Starmer is the Labour leader and he has supported sanctions to date adding that Russian money in London property and banks should be looked at.

    ...."But Corbyn..."

To my knowledge there is a deal that the UK government has with Wealthy businessmen/busnesswomen regarding the number of years residency. If my memorys right its 14/20 years to be domiciled in the UK , at which point the worldwide assets would get taxed under UK tax law. This agreement bypasses the domicile rule for a figure circa £60000p/a which says basically, sod your worldwide assets, we'll just tax what you have in this country . this figure is pocket change to the billionaires of the world

Now certain members of parliaments domicile status is interesting to say the least - any government hates to lose someone wealthy who is domiciled in the UK to another country as they dont just lose their money - they lose it linear downwards and their slice of IHT.

I stand to be corrected , but what folk have to understand with money comes privelege and generally alot of good advice, so if we had this blanket view and like it or lump it, the wealthy would simply lump it and tae there money elsewhere - so you're damned if you do , damned if you dont. If it was us in their position would you want to ringfence as much of your money as possible ?

ANother angle to look at is that the top 10% of taxpayers in the UK will be funding 90% of peoples benefit income / unpaid student loans etc - is that fair?? A billionaires money whos not domiciled here paying for someone to claim benefit in the UK - is that fair?? Just throwing it out there

    Again I stand corrected though

I have a feeling that unless they start attacking us, we stay out of it. If the Isle of Man wanted to join the Russian federation then we’d not be happy.
He wants to control his neighbours to create a buffer zone, NATO want Ukraine to join so they can camp on his doorstep.
Enough British soldiers have died fighting lost causes in Afghanistan for me… time to butt out.

    My tuppence.

Point is - things could be much worse - to the extent that if Corbyn had won the general election then his anti war at all costs mindset would have shattered the unity of NATO.
Resulting in a higher risk of a much bigger conflict.

Boris alluded to it in parliament today - saying he was thankful for the support of the opposition and the unity of parliament - which wouldn’t have been the case a few years ago.
