I believe he was playing as a striker in the U23s.

The old damned if you do, damned if you don't for mine. I can see your point as it is risky...but he also needs runs at some stage to keep match fit, just so he is ready to give 100% if he is needed for a full game in the top league. Could work out wrong either way.

If he is considered as potential 1st 11 material, he trains with the 1st 11, he DOESN'T play in the U23s where he is subject to all the risks of injury that he would be in a full 1st team game!!!! We have NO STRIKER as 1st team choice, and Gelhardt is the one player on the bench who is an out and out No.9. Why the f00k would we risk his fitness when there is NO alternative?

I am still of the belief that match fitness is a lot different to training fitness. If they stick by what you are suggesting, then he sits on the bench and never plays...all season! Don't think he would be ready to properly do a job if required...Imo.

And that would suggest that Phillips, Cooper and the likes shouldn't have played in the U23s either...with the risk of injury? Training would not have sufficed I don't believe.

So pray tell what do Ayling, Dallas, James, Rodrigo, Llorente, Raphina etc etc do when not playing, do they play in the U23s (they should do according to your "logic"). You train with those you are expected to play alongside, not the also-rans.

And now he is crocked, of what value is that supposed "match-fitness" given we have no alternative?

Bit different mate as they had long layoffs JG -played half-hour in the firsts that were enough to get anyone fit lol Whoever come up with the plan to play him should not be in charge of anything. Having said that the way the club has run things anything is possible.

He could have got injured in the first 5 minutes playing topside too?? Injuries can happen in any grade I recall.
Oz, if you played 20 minutes in 2 months, I'll bet you would have been screaming for a game in U23s! 🙄 I know I would have....

Anyway, I know not to keep responding to WTF too many times, as I don't want to die of old age before he finishes demanding he is right. 😁 I've given my opinion and will leave others to theirs....
