    Filbert Street

In between jaunts up Division Street and Jubilee celebrations I found the time to read an article on Twitter about the history of Filbert Street.

It reminded me of a rumour that we were going to buy one of the stands, transport it to Rotherham and install it in Millmoor.

Does anyone else remember this being mentioned or have I imagined it?

I am sure the canals were mentioned as a transport option.

Yes I remember it, I’m sure it was rubbish and Boothy wanted it for scrap and not to put up at milmoor. Think papers got wind of it and put 2 and 2 together and came up with 5!

No, it was seriously considered and could so nearly have happened. It was called the Carling Stand and had not been built all that long when Leicester decided to move to a new ground.

Those pictures of 100s of fans on the roof are a bit scary, don't think that would pass H&S today. And what's happening with that woman flying through the air, is that how the men used to eject women who had sneaked in

It was way too big to have fitted on the side of milmoor, I would be very surprised if there was any truth in it other than for scrap.

There was talk at the time of realigning Millmoor by turning the playing area through 90 degrees and extending into the car parking area abutting the railway lines.

Shouldn't be a surprise really, didn't the old main stand come from a racecourse and the floodlights from Bramhall Lane?

Certain that the floodlights did not come from Bramall Lane. Can't remember the Lane even having floodlights resembling the ones at Millmoor.
Remember a famous quote from the Doc when one of the bigger sides were visiting. A journo asked him how the away team would cope with the floodlights. The Doc replied that if it bothered them we can always turn them down a bit.
