    Retained list

I would hope that some of those are available for transfer.

With Macdonald and Mellor going does that mean that the structure of the team will chnge with greater emphasis on forwards. Brennan Dickenson. Why??

Simpson must have liked what he saw when he watched Charters but I’m yet to be convinced. Dickenson has a footballer inside him and I’ve always thought that he’d be a better player with better players around him, so perhaps that’s the plan. I’m pleased about Riley who was looking very, very good before his injury layoff.

I thought we might need Mellor for cover but I can understand that Simmo will want his own players and has his own ideas. I’d also like to know where we are with Guy’s recovery because he’ll need a decent pre-season in him.

So what do we need? Strength in depth up front that I’m not certain the players in the remaining squad give us. We’ll need to add bodies there - if we can afford it - though a better midfield backbone (hopefully without Mellish) might help the ball stick upfront and produce more goals. We need strengthening from front to back though, so I hope that Simmo’s little black book has the right names in it.

I think that Mellish has played very well since Paul returned

I see Mellish as a bench player proving defensive cover. More critical is a decent keeper.

He could play in the woodwind section.

It suits us that no transfers in / out can be done for several weeks. In that time there could be very important changes at the club and not much can be done whilst that is happening.

I doubt that Paul Simpson would have signed a 3 year deal with just promises from Nixon.
