Why did Southgate pick McGuire and Pickford ?

……..when we have two better players at Turf Moor .? Someone on here very recently said Southgate would be picking players who are on form . So why did those two get in the team. ? On top of that, all those Premier League prima donnas were hopeless as well. No excuses, they couldn’t’ have been tired or playing three games in the past week. Hungary seemed to have more desire , and will to win ,in front of their own muted crowd. Southgate has carried on his selection and motivation policy from the Euros , when he continued to pick the wrong players , and in the end it cost him dearly. When will the English FA wake up to the fact that he is NOT the right choice to make England successful again. We have the players, all we need is the right man at the helm.

Hungary had tried that diagonal ball several times looking for Nagy to exploit space between Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kyle Walker. It hadn’t quite paid off but Southgate subbed the pair to be replaced by Stones and Reece James. Within minutes of the substitution Hungary try the same ball and Reece James is caught out conceding the penalty. Pickford (annoying t*sser though he is) has done little wrong in an England shirt. Maguire is picked because Southgate wants to prove a point. I sadly agree malwayne that Southgate is not going to lead England to success. I watched the highlights which followed an excellent programme “Never Give In” about the life and times of Sir Alex Ferguson. That fierce Scot knew how to manage and win trophies.

I did not even know we had a game.

Southgate = zero interest for me.

Thought you might have enjoyed that turgid display of utter ****e from our boys CiB, it was only curiosity to see how much worse we could get that kept me awake in the second half.
We were so piss poor in the first half that the half time analysis on C4 mainly concentrated on the fact that the Hungsrian fans, who were mostly children, had the temerity to boo the England players as they sank to their knees before kick-off. But it was C4, even woker than the BBC.

On the football, yet more evidence that Gareth is leading England up a blind alley, we have made no progress in 4 years. A shame, we have some very good players.

That make two of us. No interest in England. I lost interest in them really in the South Africa World cup, all those years ago. Southgate is just tactically inept and will not win anything I am afraid to say. Will he now pick Tarks and Pope if they move to bigger clubs than us? That would show an interesting mentality!

I almost find myself hoping England lose just so we can get rid of the blinking buffoon but the media fawn over his “mission” to take the knee around the world (no matter how much it is detested) and ignore his tactical ineptitude. When you think of the dog’s abuse that has been meted out to previous (and better!) England managers it almost beggars belief. If we go to Qatar in the same shambolic disarray wanting to display our knee to the World Cup’s global audience I may well just stop watching England games. And that ain’t right.

Because he’s a FA yes man Mal that about covers it - said before he’s a puppet on a string , he has the best crop of players for many years at his disposal but still refuses to play players on merit and performance.
