    O/T Will Hay

What a brilliant comic actor he was. His films date from the 30s/40s but still funny to watch, well I think so anyway. There are around 6 of em on you tube. Britain made some great comedies back in the day.

Used to love Will Hay as a kid. For some bizzare reason growing up in the 6Os and early 7Os there were always these shows from the 30s on tv-Will Hay, Laurel and Hardy, Flash Gordon, Johnny Weissmuller as Tarzan. Never did us any harm I guess and have found memories of them today. "Oh, Mr Porter " was one I remember of Will Hay's I liked

True that. Back then Will Hay films were on regularly, I think Saturday mornings? Obviously Laurel and Hardy were on most days. The last time they were shown was on BBC2 around 10.30pm in the mid eighties. Talking Pictures now show the odd episode. Robert Youngson produced some L and H film compilations plus Keaton etc, they were also regularly shown when we were kids.

Like most comedians he was said to be a miserable git in real life. Not funny at all, a complete opposite to his screen character.
He was also a keen astronomer and had his own observatory in his garden.
He was only 60 when he died, people used to seem old back then.

Ward Bond was only 57 when he bought it.😮

Love those old comedians. Rob Wilton and the like. Such gently innocent humour. Max Miller was deemed too near the mark in those days. God only knows what they would make of today's comedians.
