    Letter from America

    US President Election 2024 betting.

    Trump 5/2
    De Santis 7/2
    Biden 6/1
    Harris 12/1
    Pence 16/1

Please god, let it happen, if only to witness the weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth in the BBC newsrooms and Grauniad editorials.

Absolutely. I have said a zillion times before the Yanks are bonkers. Who in their right mind would have ever voted for Biden?

All sounds very sinister to me does that mon ami. Please enlighten us? I would have thought the Republicans have the ways and means to ensure he does succeed.

Which Republicans, BT? The party that has existed since Reagan was a combination of neoliberals and neoconservatives--plutocrats and vulture capitalists like Mit Romney, and war pigs like McCain and Lindsey Graham. One group never met a free trade deal they wouldn't support. The other group never heard of a foreign military adventure they didn't love. Add to that Christian conservatives who continued to keep opposition to abortion on the party platform, but were otherwise demoralized.

Trump created a new movement within the party, America-first populism (MAGA). He promised border controls, an of end military interventions and forever wars, and reinvestment in the US.

Trump galvanized a powerful coalition to defeat him, within and without the Republican party. The neocon/neolib coalition would like to have their Republican party back, thank you.

Witness the Liz Cheney, daughter of Dick Cheney, VP to George W. Bush. She represents the neocon War Pig faction of the Republican party who hate Trump worse than poison.

I have no idea what will happen. If Trump wants the Republican nomination, he will take it. He is more popular among rank-and-file Republicans than Ronald Reagan. But can he win? If so, can he govern?

I think he can win. He expresses what many people want for America and think should be happening in the country to address some of the issues that the country is facing. As far as I am aware, Biden has achieved nothing of note so far. Please correct me if I am wrong.

The problem for Trump, apart from only opening his mouth to change feet, is that he is a threat to the cosy Washington bubble and all its parasites. He sees it for what it is but is too sensitive to their plots. His ego is his second problem - a thin skin. He mistakenly takes to social media as if the views expressed there are the majority view. That leaves him exposed.

He would do well to leave social media alone and talk to regular voters and address their issues. He will be hated by the political classes but will get a significant amount of the popular vote.

If Trump gets the Republican endorsement (and who can stop him?) he will win back the Presidentship by a country mile.
