Usually the butt of our jokes but I was really impressed with him today.
So warmly greeting the people outside the Palace at such an awful time for him.
I wish him well.
Its gonna take some getting use to saying King Charles. I still refer to him as Prince and when I say King Charles I think of a spaniel.
It’s a pity he was distanced from her back in the 70’s due to her “not being of strong virtue”, she had long been “de-flowered” by him and a good few others.
Magnificent speech by him as well.
I don’t know how people do it, I managed to do the eulogy at my mother in laws funeral but found it impossible to contemplate doing so at my dad’s funeral.
He actually died 19 years ago this very week as of 4th Sept.
The Queen died on the same date as my cousin Jody and her late nan ( my aunt ) were born.
It does not matter where you stand with The Royal Family and their ilk at the end of the day a son has lost his mother and there are many of us on here who have experienced that crippling loss. He and the others in his family have my sincere condolences.
I think he will do a good job.
I think so too Des.
It takes a big man to make the sort of gesture that he did today to Harry and his divisive wife.
The stress that this pair have caused himself, Prince Philip and The Queen in their final years, and let’s be honest, very elderly years do neither of them any credit.
If they don’t accept this obvious olive branch and wind their necks in after this gesture then they’ll never be forgiven by the British public.
Agree that Charles' speech was pretty much spot on and however much they must have known this was coming and rehearsed such things probably months beforehand it must have been exceptionally hard for him to deliver it so soon after the Queen's passing.
I've had my doubts about him before but I think he will make a good king. He has previously acknowledged that as the monarch he will no longer be able to involve himself in things as directly as he was able to before and he has, after all, had a great many years to prepare for the role with the admirable examples set by his parents. Doubtless Camilla has also helped him greatly.
Nice to see him mention Harry and Meghan as well as William and Kate and very appropriate at this sad time for the family. Meghan needs to wind her neck in if bridges are to be built though.
