    Wage Cap Time ?

Moving on from the Barlaser thread, there seems to be a general acceptance (not all) that we will never compete financially in this league.

The long-term I can only see another move towards a Premier League 2, because that's what the money-men / TV want.

Is it time to campaign for an EFL wage cap (lets say 10k/week), keeping the squad size limits, for all clubs?

This would give a more level playing field, and demonstrate the real skills of the manager / coaches.

Typically wage caps are more at the squad level (let's say that's equivalent to 12.5M at your 10K/week for a squad of 25) and this then gives the team the wiggle room to do what they want within that limit e.g. pay a 'star' player 30K/week. However, the Premiership have had 30 years to institute something like this and have never done so and as a result the 'big 6' continue to dominate and always will with the odd anomaly e.g. Leicester. Can't see The Premiership 2 (Championship) going down that route either.

Problem with a wage cap is only 1 or 2 teams would want it unless they cap the wage at a redic amount and tbh. Even at 10k it a bit rich for us.

Would be interesting to know how many players in league one are earning 10k plus per week

Plus you have to find a way to moderate the " bolt on" payments like signing on fees, free housing, cars, health plans etc etc etc

    Wages aren't the full picture

Do you think that a wage cap would encourage players to sign for us? It wouldn't even give us equality because of how much funds are given to the players budget.

To have the budget set to what your club earned the year before is the sensible thing for the football league to do but they need to give a more even payout to each club to keep the pyramid healthy.
