I've not had it for awhile whilst we've been in the Prem. To go into a match expecting a win on a regular basis is once more refreshing and to see entertaining football a bonus. Would Sean have gotten us to where we are now, who knows, but VK is a breath of fresh air, long may it continue.
I was invited along with my son to a hospitality box at BWFC and it was really bloody great. The food was fantastic, the hospitality first class, Bolton were fighting for their Championship lives whilst we were going hell for leather for promotion.
After about 70 minutes we were losing 1-0 but I just knew we would win. We did prevail with a 2-1 win and Andre Gray bagged a brace.
I can tell anyone who will listen SD 's team would murder this current lot.
I'm amazed teams are standing off us watching us play pretty possession-based football.
I really like what VK is doing but SD got us up twice and quite frankly I think we should stop mithering about contrasting styles.
In my football weekly it says we got promoted twice under SD and we won an awful lot of football games.
We must have had 70% possession tonight, but in truth we could not burst a paper bag.
The old b@stard Hanley gifted us three points with a stupid penalty, our lack of firepower against a well organised rearguard action really is our Achilles heel.![]()
Yes BT, you point out the elephant in the room. Our lack of being able to convert possession and chances is our big problem. In tight games we are on a knife edge being unable to kill games off. Yes I know we have scored a lot of goals and some really great goals at that, but striker depth is a really as yet unresolved issue. I have to say I do really like the VK way of playing.

Bt I’m posting now coz on my way to Germany then Venice , but after watching tonight we are becoming a very strong team , things are starting to click , players are more comfortable with each other’s positions which all bodes well for the rest of the season.
We played a very niggley dirty sly physical side and Tierney who was without doubt back to his bias self against Burnley, so it took relentless pressure from us to create the eventual winner in the shape of a penalty but boy did we deserve it , we’ll get another striker in our Xmas stocking I think and I pity the opposition who have to play us if we do find a natural finisher.
I’m gutted I’m not there Saturday but I’ll be cheering us on from Harry’s bar , the football even since Vincent arrived is improving and it’s so entertaining to watch - the proof is in the crowds - even in a Prem fixture we wouldn’t have had a crowd like last night - and the atmosphere is exciting and full of anticipation every time we attack.
Enjoy it gents it’s a a brilliant ride to be part off.
Enjoy the trip army88, I've always thought Harry's Bar is a bit over-priced and exaggerated, I think Michael Winner was to blame for that.
It will be nice for you to get away from the Toxic Party for a while and let's hope we can see off Reading in your well-deserved absence.![]()
BWFC have exactly the same problem ATM playing attractive fancy stuff with no end product and Tuesday's game against a crap Burton team exemplified it perfectly. After the opening exchange where we were running rings round them, they started time wasting - from the 8th minute! They fouled, dived, packed their defence and stopped play at every opportunity. One goalkick took 52 seconds to take. When they got a corner on the left, the right back strolled over to take it and ball-in-play action totalled no more than 20 minutes in the first half. Second half was the same and they scored from a corner. As time ticked away Evatt threw on 2 big strikers and we equalised via our goalie hoofing it the length of the pitch, one bounce and a left foot volley across the goalie. Got the winner in the 98th minute (although if the ref had added the right amount we'd still be playing now) - when a striker managed to get a shot through a crowd and they had all 10 outplayers in their own box so it was a miracle it got through.
Point is with possession football, teams set up to frustrate you and whilst the likes of City have the quality to play through packed defences it can be 90 minutes of watching great stuff in front of a brick wall of a final third if you don't have that quality - so you have to mix it up, break quickly and be more direct from time to time.
It can be very frustrating - worse still, we push players forward and can get caught on the break despite dominating as happened against Stanley last week.
Anyhoo, after beating Burton for the first time in our history there are now only 3 teams left that the Wanderers have played on at least two occasions without a win - Marseilles, Sporting Lisbon and.....
...Sutton United![]()
