Southgate is the managerial equivalent of an

..... old cardigan with big buttons.

We need a multi coloured tank top of a national manager like Klopp to let these youngsters play with verve and energy.

We are in the process of wasting the best centre forward of the last 50 odd years and some of the best attacking wide players and midfielders we have seen in over 30 years.

Apart from Maguire there’s nothing wrong with the team personnel, it’s the beige f ing cardigan managing that’s the issue.

Maguire was very good, head on everything, The first match v Iran was a joy to watch. This is a good team with our best ever manager, there’s lots of competition though and I was really impressed with the USA press. Really gave us no room to play, we did look slow though but if we were Argentina we would be a lot more upset. It’s football, it is what it is. Ups and downs.

Interestingly Poland are having exactly the same problem v Saudi Arabia as we did v USA, very strong press and Poland can't play.
