    Fao Dubbag

Hi, mate have you ever read Chariots of the Gods by Erich von Daniken?
I read it years ago and he suggests that the ancient civilisations were visited by aliens who they thought of as god's.
It is very believable when you think that every culture on earth thinks of their gods as living in the sky. From the Greeks, Egyptians, Native American and Norse they all believed the great father lived in the sky.
A lot of the ancient civilisation buildings can only be truly appreciated from the air.
The Innuit's believe their ancestors came on the wings of a great bird, and the Cherokee believe their ancestors came from above.
Fascinating stuff, it's been many years since I read it I might download it and read it again.
What I will say is that I have always believed homo sapiens had been given a leg up by someone or something.
The rest of the Apes haven't progressed much and the other human like species have become extinct, though I think in the case of the Neanderthals it was more a case of assimilation. The European races and Asian races have Neanderthal DNA, but there is none in African.

Very interesting. From what you say it sounds an extremely worthwhile read. I’m not a great reader myself despite having been a teacher, although it was PE! Might well give it a go.

I read it years a go Des. He stretches the evidence from ancient buildings to Nasca lines and so on. I do not subscribe to conspiracy theories but do believe we do not progress in a straight upward line in evolution. Historical evidence points to regression mixed in our development in evolution. While no modern day engineers can explain how say, for example the Pyramids in Egypt were built, some suggestions are very outlandish and hard to believe. Technology has both been gained and lost over time. South America has huge buildings so high up on the side of mountains that still no explanation can be found for how it was achieved but still to simple to say its aliens.
Others have joined the ancient aliens theory since Von Danigen...
Our history is complex and if you think fake news is only a recent event....think what has been changed in the past!!
Just imagine how our history has been changed in the past. It is why so much is been rewritten because the evidence been dug up is pointing away from many of our historical teachings.
A simple example...The Egyptian Pyramids were and still are regarded as the oldest standing man made buildings going back thousands of years. In the late 1980's, I think it was a German geologist discovered Göbekli Tepe in Southern Turkey, which has been dated at 9500 and 8000 BCE. That places it around 10,000BC nearly 6000 years older then the pyramids. It is a huge site and upturning everything we thought we knew about our species development and progress.
We are living through some fantastic times of discovery and it hasn't even begun yet Des.
    More to come...

I read the Von Daniken book years ago when it first came out; I ordered it from the newsagents at the top of Mucklow Hill, opposite The Stag pub, early 70’s I would guess. His ancient aliens ideas were debunked a long time ago! I still have that old book stashed away in the loft somewhere!

I don't have a lot of time for the debunkers either Ketts, to be honest.
The experts were at one point only learners as well.

I suspect Ketts that this was the one you bought back in the day. I also bought the very same hardback and was all in with his ideas. I also bought all his follow up books, Gold of the Gods etc. Then along came a BBC2 programme called Horizon which debunked the lot.

Yes, that’s the one. As I said I still have it as I rarely, if ever, get rid of books, I like books!

Remember reading this many years ago. Think he wrote another book on a similar subject too? (Bermuda triangle possibly?). I know much of what he wrote has since been debunked but still doesn't necessarily mean that everything he proposed is wrong. We know so little about our own planet still (e.g. The depths of the oceans) let alone our own galaxy and beyond so who really knows? Maybe it is better to try and keep an open mind and remember to just ask "is it logically possible or not?" As Mulder used to say "I want to believe"!😀

My issue around debunkers is that they are usually protecting their own education background. The guy in charge of the Egyptian digs, still refuses to accept the Gobeckli Tepi site is older then the pyramids, which it is. There is scientific evidence but scientists don't always follow the truth.
They usually follow the money and tenure sadly.
