She’s used the past 8 years scheming for independence at the expense of everything else. I think that the Scots have finally sussed her. This transgender issue, to my mind anyway, isn’t the real reason why she’s finally quit.

I think that she sees the writing is on the wall for the independence issue; she wants the next general election to be a de facto vote on independence. That looks increasingly unlikely.

Don't get me wrong, I am no fan of Sturgeon, but actually think her resignation speech was pretty honest. She is right, politics -always a brutal arena-has become worse over the years in terms of the intrusion on any personal life and the growing pressures from social media with its easy peddling of vitriol and hate have only made this worse. To survive in any top job in politics these days for any sustained period of time would seemingly require not just a thick skin but an almost pathological narcissism to enable you to ignore/ suppress all criticism. May dislike her but Sturgeon is no Putin/Xi Jingpin/ Kim jong un.

In truth though she has also got too many things wrong recently and mis- read the room. The trans issue I certainly think played its part. In her efforts to support the woke agenda she pressed for the age of gender re-assignment to be lowered to 16. But the argument that you can get married at 16 (even though you cannot drink until 18) holds no water. It doesn't mean that the law is right in this and, indeed, so many have felt that 16 is too young to be married that the age becomes 18 from 27th Feb in the UK. Times have changed. ****agers are far more cosseted and have less life-skills now at that age. Years ago there was little concept of childhood as we know it and kids had minimum schooling and worked from an early age. This was reflected in the age for marriage which remained at around 12 throughout several centuries. It was not until 1929 that it legally became 16. The fiasco of the "trans" rapist Adam Graham/Isla Bryson being originally sent to a women's prison hardly helped either.

As for her main concern, Scottish Independence, she has misjudged this too and the legal rejection of her demand for a further referendum on the matter hurt her too. I think there are a combination of factors in her resignation including the pressures of the job on her personal life but also maybe a recognition that she has made too many errors lately and that this has only worked against her cause for independence. Won't miss her though.

She’s been a one agenda politician and she’s failed.

That pretty much sums her up.
