    O/T Official 2023 Ashes Thread

So here we go again against the old enemy from down under .

Fascinating contest , Bazball v The World Test Champions .

Will England's exciting , aggressive and chance taking cricket see off the World Champions ?

We'll soon find out starting tomorrow at Edgbaston .

Boland & Co bowl the Aussies into a commanding position.

England bowlers no match for the Aussie batters.

In my opinion there's not much between the sides.

Our bowling attack is a slight concern because there's no genuine pace but it's certainly experienced that's for sure.

Too close to call this series imo

Watched it all afternoon. Joe Root was an absolute pleasure to watch. It was composed world class stuff, a delightful innings.

I was surprised at the declaration but this is the kind of cricket England want to play under Stokes and McCullum. We're looking to gain a stranglehold on the game and put the pressure on the opponents. Just watching the final half hour hoping we can take a wicket or two before the day is out. If Australia survive this last half hour intact, then they'll take confidence from that into tomorrow.

This is bold attacking and exciting test cricket from England. If you can't enjoy this then go watch another sport.

Just got to go with it with how England now want to play , I'm not going to criticise the declaration although it took me my surprise with Root opening his shoulders and hitting the Aussies over the ropes when Stokes did declare .

Root was simply majestic with Bairstow also in great nick .

Award to Harry Brook , that's got to be the unluckiest dismissal in test match history bar none .

Yeah that Brook dismissal was freaky. When the Aussies had got that piece of luck and shortly after Stokes went, it was looking edgy for us. However, Bairstow came in and once he'd faced a couple of overs, he played some brilliant shots, got his partnership with Root going and that changed the game back in England's favour.

Personally I wouldn't criticise any declaration because it shows intent rather than playing it cagey. Ennyrooard, Root wo swinging after he got his century and the bottom order batsman were in with only Anderson to come. I don't think England could've added much more to their score. The best call was to put them in to face a few overs at the death and hoping for a breakthrough imo

Having a lovely week's holiday in this glorious weather and really enjoyed the cricket today.

Brook really unlucky, all he could do was smile to himself - freak dismissal.

Root magnificent and really chuffed for Jonny B to have such a great knock on his return to the Test team after his unfortunate injury.

I can see the Aussies getting a similar score then rain spoiling the game and a draw being the result.

I'd have liked 420 Pass and got over 400 from a physiological angle , with Robinson blocking to good affect , Root opening his shoulders against a very tired looking Aussie attack it looked on to me .

However this is the way England play and I'm not going to criticise the declaration too much and it certainly makes for entertaining cricket .

    See what happens today .
