"We've got enough leaders and experience in this team to be able to overcome the current anxiety!"

Finally, got around to listening. Great pod.
A really insightful part was about sections of the fanbase never being on board with the style. And our fanbase being particularly disposed towards this and waiting for the chance to moan having been frustrated for the whole of last season (by us winning). That certainly rings true reading NCM. But the great thing here is that it goes further by saying that this negativity is a THREAT to our success - negativity breeding more negativity and anxiety, casting doubt around the club that our way can work.
Makes sense to me, as the boys say what we need on Saturday is for all the fans to get behind the team for the whole game.
This is the first home league game since Boreham Wood so there should be a massive buzz on bringing EFL football back to Meadow Lane. In the grand the scheme of things, the games v Sutton and Lincoln with 10 men shouldn't matter at all. It should be all about welcoming back returning heroes.
Negativity amongst supporters really is a threat to our success. That is why the positive vibes only theory is really important. It doesn't mean you cannot have concerns about how we are as a team, but as a supporter, I think it important to try and be constructive with any perceived weaknesses you see.
Grimsby, tomorrow is possibly the worst team we could be facing tomorrow, because even though they have been unhappy with their start to the season, you know for a fact they are coming here in great numbers and will be a wall of positive noise behind their team.
It is important for us to try and match that tomorrow, but it is always more difficult for the home side as although having greater numbers, the vocal supporters are usually spread out more.
I do try and be constructive with any criticism, but how does any sort of criticism fit in with the 'Positive Vibes Only' mantra? I must have read "let's all get behind the team" a thousand times before on here. That confuses me as well. I will be behind the team from kick off to final whistle tomorrow, but I'll probably have a few concerns as well. I will applaud a good tackle and good tracking back as much the forward stuff, but not the kamikaze defending we are increasingly prone to. I left the 'Gerrit forward' brigade long ago, but I struggle to see why we take so many risks in our own penalty box. I get the idea that it is the start of us passing through them, but it only takes one misplaced pass to create an opportunity for the opposition.
I haven't seen kamikaze play in our own box for a while...not compared to when Patto played for us, for example.
We play out from the back nearly all the time though and there is an element of risk to that - there will always be errors across a season. What seems to affect our players more is the inexplicable unforced errors, slips, brainfarts, after-you-Claude type miscommunications.....like Slocombe taking a goal-kick to himself at Wembley. As a coach, you'd need your team to be beyond that. You can't factor in a keeper taking a goal-kick to himself or a back-pass about 10 yards too short. As a pro, you have to eliminate these but we don't seem to be able to shake them off.
What'd help is the fans (more of them) accepting that we play like this (a pretty normal style in 2023) because the anxiety does transmit to the pitch. Then we might just suffer from the normal quota of forced errors over a season. If we can't, I'd like it to be the players that have to go and not the coaches' and owners' strategic style, which is to play the way they do at the higher levels.
