I suspect both Maatsen and BFC were set up by Chelsea with a fantasy deal to help alleviate their FFP problems. There was no way we were ever going to pay £31 million, the basic fee would have been much lower with add on clauses that were unlikely ever to be activated, win the league, qualify for Europe, caps for Holland, top ten finish etc. In the end Maatsen decided he wasn't going to play their game and good luck to him.
