    How many

Points will we need to stay up. I know 40 is said to guarantee safety but with Everton losing again today and at least three other teams incapable of getting any points. I suspect 30 will be enough. Grounds for optimism? What does everybody think?

    I would say 36 Chastenor.

I thought we would get 40 without too much of a problem, now I'm not so sure we can hit 20-30.

At the moment I'm back (to the Dyche era) hoping to get 12 points first and then to avoid relegation with whatever it takes. Bring back cruising in the Championship.

Luton will be lucky to get 10pts. SU are looking better than us right now and I don't see where the third is coming from. Yes Everton lost again but would anyone expect them to beat Arsenal. A marked improvement is our only hope.

I honestly don’t think Utd are looking any better than us - they just set up more like we used to under Dyche - Everton we’re the same yesterday they didn’t set up to win a game of football only to Nick a set piece and hope. ( ring any bells ).

We need to get some consistency and a settled team ( the strongest team imo anyway with players playing their positions ).

For me anyway there must be a balance in the middle of defending for 80mins and being resolute and going gung ho and leaving ourselves wide open.

Tbf to Vinny he’s learning on the job and I remember writing that about Dyche ( without slagging him off he didn’t learn how to change things in all his time at Burnley ).

So if we can take on board the not leaving ourselves open and allowing the opposition 2 goals start a game we may just be alright.

I think we saw a significant improvement Army. Like several others I would have liked Benson to have had the last 20 mins. JBG can not go past a man on the outside which is a real limitation but overall this team performance must breed confidence.

Blackpool and Birmingham were relegated with 39 points in 2010/11, but since then 38 points has been enough to stay up, Newcastle were relegated with 37 points but usually 36 points is enough. Bit like how long is a piece of string really, there's no knowing how many points it will take this season but 38 points, a point a game should be enough, with 40 virtually guaranteeing it.
