Burnley return to action after the international break with a trip to West London to face Thomas Frank’s Brentford. The Clarets go in to this fixture on the back of a disappointing 1-4 loss to Chelsea which brought about a fifth consecutive home league defeat. The Clarets have however performed rather better on their travels picking up 4 points from their three away games. The Bees however have also struggled this season winning only one league game so far and still awaiting a first home win. In their last game they must have scented victory for a second time as they led Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford courtesy of Mathias Jensen’s first half strike only to concede two goals both scored by substitute Scott McTominay in second half injury time.

With Ivan Toney unavailable for selection until January 2024 due to a long term disciplinary ban Brentford have been relying on his former strike partner Bryan Mbeumo to provide their goals. With Aaron Hickey suspended and Rico Henry injured Thomas Frank has selection problems at full back but goalkeeper Mark Flekken is set to return between the posts. Ex Claret Ben Mee is unlikely to have recovered from injury in time to face his former club but Nathan Collins who signed for Brentford in July 2023 for a club record 23 million after spells at Burnley and Wolves is almost certain to be in the Bees starting line up. The Clarets seem likely to select Brownhill, Cullen and Sander Berge in midfield with top scorer Lyle Foster leading the attack. Zeki Amdouni, Jacob Bruun Larsen, Wilson Odobert and Luca Koleosho will vie for places up front. Beyer, Ekdal, Benson, JBG and Redmond are all doubtful for the Clarets.

Brentford will be odds on favourites to record their first home win and get their supporters belting out favourite tune “Hey Jude”. Burnley however have shown more enterprise and grit away from home and may well be capable of coming away from the Gtech Stadium with a point. COYC!
