O/T Bad Cover Versions that were a hit

It's O/T so before you say anything, no it's not about us masquerading as a football team.

A while back we had a thread about Great Cover Versions so let's have one about bad ones. Obviously most are pretty bad but I'm looking for ones that achieved acclaim but in your opinion were horrendous.

Name as many as you like but I'm just going to go for one as I just heard it again on the radio here. I first heard it when we moved to the states around 1999 and wondered WTF (or whatever the equivalent of WTF was back in the day). I'm talking about Celine Dion's version of the Jennifer Rush classic 1984 hit, The Power of Love. I was gobsmacked to find that CD's version had topped the Billboard 100 in the US and been nominated for a Grammy when the original had only ever reached number 57 ten years before. An absolute travesty and just goes to show what Americans know about music

Michael Andrews and Gary Jules version. Christmas number 1 in 2003 compared to Tears for Fears number 3 in 1982.

I'd guess like Sota you are a Stones fan Jock? I never was and so quite liked Devo's version, saw them live on my 50th birthday and they were just as you'd expect, crazy!
