Wasn’t he the one who played with a broken neck?

Yes. First German to appear in an FA Cup Final. Played 15+ minutes with 5 dislocated vertebrae one which had been cracked into two. Luckily two of the vertebrae had lodged against each other which probably saved his life. However, he himself only thought he had a 'cricked neck' and it took the NHS 3 days to diagnose the break

Makes a bit of a mockery of today's "he felt contact so he was perfectly within his right to go down". They bred them to be tough in the Hitler Youth

I think he was kept as a POW in Sheffield somewhere after being shot down.

Remarkable story - I will try to catch up with that. Thanks

There is a film about his life from the POW camp to the FA cup final.
There’s a poignant situation about the old goal posts from Main Road.

It’s called The Keeper and it’s worth a watch.

Could not give advance notice regarding the programme, I was just looking through the
channels when I saw it advertised.

Yes called " The Keeper ", forgot to put title, thanks for that Frogmiller.

I was looking at football on my laptop, whilst also watching television.
