Thanks for that ELK. Sad to see so many gone on that route which was a regular 'crawl' for us in the late 70's having started in The Queens in Rawmarsh followed by a bus up to the The Woodman, walk down through Swinton ending up in Mexborough at either The South Yorkshire or sometimes making it up to The Park.
When did The Kings Head close? I was there in 2017 and it seemed to be doing quite well although I guess we've had Covid since then.
Kings Head was known for good Sunday roast lunch, Waff who now has the Ring o'Bells at
Swinton, had it & was well known for good food.
But he decided to take the Ring O'Bells has landlord.
A few people have had the Kings Head at different times since, it was closed in 2022 I believe,
then in 2023 the owners of the public house, were denied permission on wanting to knock
down the pub, building 2 houses on it, then up to 4 houses at the rear.
Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council said the proposed plans were overdeveloping of the
land.
To what will happen, will probably mean the owners coming up with further plans.
