I don't know what the obsession with Wyke is.

There must be far younger (and faster) strikers out there with a bit of appetite and also potential sell on value.

Wyke seems to be looking for the best final contract he can get and I suspect he couldn't care less who he plays for.

    It’ll be Bradford. Nailed on.

He is a proven goalscorer and they are very hard to come by at our level. He should be priority signing number 1 if he is at all interested. Surely with piakak and (hopefully) branthwaite money to spend we can outbid Bradford for anyone else

I wish nothing but the best for Charlie Wyke but, apart from the fact that he once played for us, I don't see the logic in bringing him back now.

I appreciate he fits Greg Abbott's ideal lazy signing profile in that he has Bradford and Carlisle links but beyond that he does not seem to be the type of player we need at this time.

He'll be 32 in December, has had 2 heart attacks, has a defibrillator in his chest and has only scored 10 goals since November 2021 when he had his first heart attack.

He wasn't considered good enough for a starting place in Wigan's team for much of last season and when he went on loan to Rotherham he scored once in 12 games. His loan spell ended early due to an ankle injury and he apparently finished the season needing another operation.

If we seriously intend to get promoted next season we really should be looking for players capable of stepping up to the next level. The team is crying out for a young, fit, fast striker with a hunger to progress higher in the game.

Chris Conn-Clarke (aged 22) who Peterborough have just signed from Altrincham is a good example of the type of player we should be looking for.

Similarly Notts County picked up Macaulay Langstaff from Gateshead for £50k a couple of years ago and he has since scored 70 goals in 90 appearances.

I appreciate there is a place in the game for experience, but for me these are the type of players Abbott should be looking for, not players on the way down the ladder.

As anticipated signs on two year deal.

    Good luck Charlie.

Let us hope we are still looking to get one or two players in with some pace.

Remember that Mrs Merton line, “whatever attracted you to the millionaire Paul Daniels?” I reckon the rumoured £6k to £7k a week might have something to do with it. Noice to see that we can outdo Bradford and the likes financially now.
