Pensioners are easy targets, like motorists. Well over £1Billion saved here, which will help to keep the illegals nice and warm in their hotel rooms.

Just one of many ways these leftie tossers will screw the people who put everything into the country. Five years of bleak times ahead I am afraid.

What concerns me is not that I won’t receive the winter fuel allowance but where will that money go. This is only the start, wait until the October budget.

I’ve little time for the present Tory Party but neither do I trust Labour. It was obvious that when they came to power that they would claim the situation was worse than they thought. It was so obvious.

A lot of people who voted Labour are going to be shocked at their tax increases and loss of services.

Always beware the party that specialises in saying nothing at an election as much as the party promising the world.

I predict the next set of Council elections will see the gradual loss of Labour seats as the tide inevitably turns slowly in the opposite direction.

Should be the beginning of the end for them. No better than the Tories or Liberals, as once elected, they don't seem to regard the electorate as their real bosses do they?

My thoughts exactly! I dislike Starmer immediately when he opens his gob!

Certainly have concerns over this as I'm sure many pensioners who are borderline and so miss out on pension credit top up will now struggle. Having said that, it must surely be clear to all that the finances of the country cannot allow the continuation of "blanket" benefits.

The primary aim of these benefits is to help protect the poorest and most vulnerable. Giving the winter fuel allowance to people who have no need of it simply because they are pensioners is surely squandering this pot of money from its intended use? The only caveat I would say is that any benefits should be not only means tested but paid on a graded scale so not an "all or nothing" payment.

Is Reeves right or Hunt? The truth probably lies somewhere in between . The OBR has just come out with a statement broadly supporting much of what Reeves has said. Don't trust the OBR or Bank of England? Cast your mind back to Truss, who was scathing of the "bean counters" too and ignored their advice. That ended well didn't it!

With all the recent evidence of Tory financial mis-management (the corruption of PPE contracts, the ploughing of increasing amounts of money into the vanity looking HS2 project, the "eat out to help out" scheme, a furlough scheme that squandered money on some whilst leaving others high and dry) does anyone really believe Hunt?

This is certainly not to say that Reeves is not taking political advantage of the situation and doubtless she may also be exaggerating the failings of the Conservatives but it does make me smile that some who likely voted for Maggie in the past are now critical of Reeves in this regard. After all, is she not really doing what Thatcher would have done in grasping the nettle of financial mismanagement and making difficult and unpopular decisions as a consequence?

For the record, I do think that public sector employees like teachers or nurses deserved a pay rise (even though an increasing number of workers in the country are paid minimum wage) but hope that those with publicly funded "gold plated" pension schemes have them downgraded to better reflect what has happened in financial reality and in the private sector. Similarly, I agree that junior doctors deserved a pay rise, but 22% is surely too much-especially if helped being funded by cuts in social services for the more vulnerable.
