Nobody will be employed by the club unless they are invested in the academy players .
Bobby Hassell .
Prior to Clarke arriving as HC .
Maybe the players are already here and we are going with what we have on the books .
I expected more than this.
We haven’t signed anyone yet that’s gunna set the place on fire.
I’m not expecting to see much of Hourihane on the pitch this season.
Ok - we have signed Roberts to provide experience at the back - and we’ve also signed what looks like a good goalkeeper.
But that’s all !!!
So there seems to be something going wrong.
I don’t believe it’s everything to do with the amount of money thats available.
But obviously it will be a major factor.
I think there is something else going on.
My guess is that there’s been a shift in recruitment strategy - different from what we saw last season - when quite a few of the signings were slow to get going and some didn’t live up to expectations - although there is Collins to factor into that.
My thoughts are that the club is aiming higher up the ladder for players that other clubs will also be aware of.
And because of that the club is being met with greater competition for players - especially when the selling club will know that Barnsley sold two players worth £8.5 million last season.
Even if a large slice of that money is ploughed back into the running of the club.
Other clubs will not be thinking that and will believe Barnsley has a wad of money waiting to be spent.
We will sign players.
How many of them will be Option 1 or maybe Option 2 or even Option 3 we won’t be told.

Currently our academy appear to be bringing along a promising group of players who at some point got to be given a chance to step up , obviously Jalo is one of this group and hopefully more will follow otherwise what is the point of it all ? I do believe there is a change in recruitment strategy and hopefully the failed spreadsheet system has hit the bin , I am not sure how people can hold Collins or any other manager accountable regarding any previous signings who have failed , the blame lies entirely at the door of the suits who are running our club but hopefully things are changing direction and I feel sure that our recruitment for this window is far from over and the time to judge will be months down the line , we will then be able to see if it has been successful or not.
Problem of relying on the young uns is that no one knows how they will cope with league football.
Fabio struggled last season - but given time he should come good.
The point is - the league doesn’t allow for a player to be given time - they have to hit the ground running.
I like the look of Yung Yoga and I’m keeping my fingers crossed he will break through into the 1st Team this season.
IMO we need at least 5 players.
A left wing back and a spare.
Two strikers.
An attacking midfielder.
I agree Nudge the problem being any players we bring in now will not be ready for the start of the season! It will take them weeks to get to match fitness.
What we have now is nowhere near good enough to compete at league one level, yes we have players with experience but at the moment it looks like we are starting with an unproven goalie, Watters and Cosgrove up front with Jalo and Marsh as back up, a defence of Roberts and Mael if Pines isn’t fit, no left back unless he plays Earl there and a midfield of Hourihane and Connell with Yonganathan and Benson as back up.
It’s scary to think but with the set up presently I can see Mansfield giving us a good hiding live on TV.

Perky , why do we assume that any player we sign between now and the start of the season has not been training or has no decent fitness levels ? If we are signing them from another club and are not out of contract players they will have been training, for example if a club came in for Phillips from us he would go to his new club with a decent fitness level, also when we sign players in january from any club they often come into the match day squad straight away having being in their previous clubs reserves or even none contract but again they are professionals and will be in decent nick, to me it doesn"t matter when we sign them it is actually getting the deals over the line that matters and getting the right players instead of the previous gambling on the spreadsheet , we will see what happens.
Grasshopper say, "Be patient the one who calls himself Nudger. Good things come to men who are not in a hurry"
CEO Jon Flatman said on 23rd May 2024 on the Barnsley Official Website--
"Work is already underway to recruit some exciting players for next year".
Only two months have passed since that statement, plus the time for the work already done.
It is a time for patience. New heroes will emerge from stage left--maybe a Premiership starlet on loan along the lines of Tedic, maybe Genius James will unearth a non-league player that has gone under everybody else's radar, along the lines of Dallas and Shaw.

I’m not accusing anyone at the club of being inept.
There is a lot at stake here - potentially £££millions of future revenue - so obviously the signings have to be spot on.
However - because of the late signings of players I’m expecting a slow start to the season.
Players not fully up to speed physically and also in their ability to understand how the team plays.
We have a new HC that in the first few weeks of the season may be playing catchup.
This could put extra pressure on the players and the HC.
According to Doug, we are close to a defensive midfielder. If we can get that in early this week and then shortly a left wing back and striker, I think we’ll be looking good.
Does anyone else think we need a replacement for Williams at right back?
Im not overly taken with Cotter or O'Keefe
