Italian woman refuses to fight Algerian thing!

    Well played the Italian girl.

How on earth can the Algerian thing be classed as a woman?

Have to admit, didn’t look too much like a woman to me, but then, I’m just plain old fashioned!

The Italian lady was spot on. As posted in a previous thread, both this Algerian boxer and a Chinese one had been found illegible to compete in the women's boxing at the World Championship only last year due to not meeting the gender criteria so WTF are they doing being allowed to do so at the Olympics? All this nonsense being spouted about equality/discrimination is
b olloc ks ('scuse the pun&#128513-it's about wanting to use an (unfair) advantage to try and win medals.

Why can't trans sports people have their own category ffs. Yes, they may genuinely feel "female" or "male" but the truth is that they are not, certainly regarding biological physicality. Wanting or believing something, however hard, doesn't make it so!

I decided to not watch any Olympics due to Russian participation, however I did watch the clip posted by Mickd out of curiosity. It makes my decision, albeit broken perhaps by watching the clip, a decision I remain happy with. Sport has gone mad supporting so much pain, murder and now this total and utter mess it finds itself in.

Thank god I find other things to do other than watch the games.

Regarding these two boxers, the info. that we first received doesn’t appear to be completely accurate. Don’t get me wrong, I’m vehemently against trans gender women competing in female categories in any sport but it does appear that these two boxers are classed as female on their birth certificates, been brought up as females and have female on their passports. Basically, if correct, they are women.

If they have increased their testosterone levels by artificial methods that is a different matter and should be banned for drug misuse. Otherwise, it appears to me that they should be allowed to compete.

I agree and refuse to watch it for the same reason! Shame on them!

If subsequent reports are correct regarding the two boxers having been born female and are not males who have trans-gendered post puberty to become "women" then I apologize unreservedly. Apparently, both have always competed as females from a young age and have both won and lost bouts in this category to women.

It is possible, of course, that the boxers concerned have a rare DSD condition that means that, even if born female with female genitalia, they still have XY chromosomes and higher levels of testoserone which gives them a potential advantage over the majority of female boxers with XX chromosomes and lower testosterone in terms of power.

Naturally, they were born with this condition and therefore this poses a far trickier question for those deciding their eligibility to perform as women within a sport than it would do than if they were trans.

Clearly, despite the chromosome issue, they are otherwise female and I agree with you that they should therefore be allowed to compete as such. They may have inherited an advantage through their chromosomes, but is this much different to any other female boxers who may have genetically inherited other physical advantages? Both still have to work hard in training to succeed.

I'm sure the issue also predates all the recent "gender wars" and if you look back at photos of some Russian women weight lifters for example, they do appear rather "manly" ! Tbh, in retrospect, whilst not detracting from her undeniable achievements either in sport or in surmounting her childhood difficulties , how many of us didn't feel that our own Fatima Whitbread also looked a bit "manly"?
