O/T - Swinton Working Mens Club [Bottom Club] Closing

Swinton Working Mans Club [Bottom club] closing.

Heard the club closing due to lack of customers, this weekend.

Also heard The Rock Tavern pub at Meadow View, between Kilnhurst
& Swinton is to close, at some point.

    Such a shame.
Used to be an integral part of the popular Swinton night life going back 25 years or so. Used to call in on the regular Sunday night pub crawl Swinton was famous for back in the 90s

Ive been in all them pubs at some time or other Elk, my ex wife lived at Swinton when I met her so had some great times round the pubs there, including a few Christmas eve/ new years eve's in the Swinton WMC back in the 70's and 80's and even got married at St Margaret's Church in Swinton, having a glass of whisky with my best man in the Ring o Bells across the road before going into church. Unfortunately the pub/club trade has been in decline for a long time now.

Sign of the times I suppose, but such a shame non the less.

I briefly lived in one of those new builds on the old bacon factory on Carlisle Street, so used The Rock quite a bit.
I did go in the WMC too and was on the verge of becoming a member but never got round to it, as I only ended up staying there a year.

That's 20 years ago just gone, blimey 😆

My dad was from Swinton too, so I've spent a lot of time going there over the years, going in a lot of the places mentioned.

Sundays were a sight to behold sometimes, particularly a BH weekend 😆

I still go over every so often to visit my Dad's grave in St Margaret's and call in The Robin to have a pint remembering the happy times in there with my Dad and occasionally the ringers and butchers
