See he’s been made interim manager at Blackpool.
I know he screwed up big time at Derby five (?) years ago…but he remains, imo, the best leader we’ve had in a very long time and at his best I think he could make a great success of things.
I, for one, wish him well.

I honestly wasn’t talking about Wembley and, without going over it all again, as captain he did, imo, mess up big time over Joinergate…but his DCFC career has infinitely more pluses than minuses.
To me he’s one of the good guys who made a mistake and, as I’ve said, I wish him well. Still Derby based I believe.
Still think he was treated harshly over joinergate, yes he was injured but the others got away scott free at the club, Lawrence was left out 1 game.
We know the reasons, Lawrence had a value, Keogh not so much.
I know people say yeah he was captain but I don't buy that. Lawrence and Bennett were grown adults.
I reckon they got away with their criminal charges lightly too.
An accident while drunk and dangerous driving, leaving the scene too
Could easily have been custodial
Bet the club covered their transportation costs too
I guess we’ll never know all the details. For me, being captain doesn’t begin and end on the pitch. A captain, especially a senior pro one, has responsibilities off the pitch. He let himself, and DCFC, down in that respect, but it’s all water under the bridge now. He made a mistake but paid a huge price and certainly has the qualities to succeed in management imo…bet he won’t be trying to sign Lawrence or Bennett any time soon though.![]()

Your being very harsh here and perhaps have an interpretation of the duties of a Captain, which as far as I am aware has no contractual requirements and in reality is little more than a ceremonial honour, and someone who is able to speak to the ref on the field of play. The mistake he made was getting in the car! Not really sure what you expected of him otherwise? He committed no criminal offence, he was not there in any official capacity. I mean I guess he could have tried to stop either of those two driving, but maybe he didn't think he had to make a decision on behalf of an adult? Or maybe he wasn't aware of how drunk they were?
Hardly "letting derby down" more like Derby let him down as was proven when he won the employment tribunal, not sure how much of the pay out he received though, but it totally vindicated him as far as his employment contract was concerned.
‘Very harsh’? Well maybe…a little. Consistent? Certainly.
You’re right about ‘no contractual requirement’ but I think the best captains, in any sport, see it as more than just a ‘ceremonial honour’ and wouldn’t have allowed themselves to be misled in such a way. Would you have got into a car in such circumstances? I doubt it.
Old argument anyway, but let’s remember I also started the thread to wish him well and referred to him as Derby’s best leader in recent times.

Somewhere on the club website there's the interview with Hourihane from last season just after he was made Captain. He laid out what the "job" entails and it's way more than just tossing the coin before kick off.
