From Charlton for an undisclosed fee. Another 6ft 3 in defender.
Bit more depth in what has been our Achilles heel
.
We have completed the signing of Charlton Athletic defender Lucas Ness for an undisclosed fee.
The highly-regarded 22-year-old, who made 40 senior appearances for the League One side, has signed a three-year deal at Meadow Lane, with the club holding an option to extend by a further year.
Director Richard Montague said: “Sometimes, in the transfer market, an opportunity presents itself which is too good to pass up – and the board are in agreement that this is one of those instances.
“Lucas is an outstanding young defender who has huge potential to improve over the duration of his contract, so we’re very excited to bring him to Meadow Lane.
“He has already proven himself highly capable at League One level, with his maturity and dependability belying his young age.
“He’s fantastic in the air, comfortable on the ball and, while perfectly suited to the right centre back role, is capable of playing anywhere across the back three.
“Lucas is coming to the end of a successful rehabilitation from an injury he experienced last season and, with Matty Platt, Jacob Bedeau and Robbie Cundy settling in nicely, Rod McDonald nearing a return and Lewis Macari having a strong start to the season, we can ensure Lucas takes the time he needs to get up to speed and show his quality when ready.
“This is very much a signing made with the long-term in mind – and it doesn’t affect our plans to strengthen other areas of the squad before the transfer window closes.”
Ness, who won back-to-back Player of the Month awards during his time at the Valley, joined Charlton from Metropolitan Police before furthering his first-team experience with loans at Hampton & Richmond in National League South and Torquay United in the National League

Monster of a signing, will be key to the Loch of the back 4
Hard to know what to make of it - sounds like the Charlton board rate him but think it'll be better for him to challenge for more game time in L2.
All well and good, but what about a pacey striker...
Go on then. I'll say it. I've never heard of him.
He sounds promising. Right age. Fits the model.
But......he's a defender and injured
Where are the attacking reinforcements.
The Charlton board also claim they negotiated a sell-on fee, so they must think there's a player there as well. Just not one they could rehabilitate and develop in their setup. Some surprise he isn't out on loan.
And wikipedia says he's 6'3"...
