As someone (just) left of centre but probably massively to the left of you why would I want to be embarrassed by a lead of the entire nation looking to improve the lot of the entire nation by trying at least to have some sort of relationship with Europe which could improve trade, our economy, and the lot of our people, including allowing our young people to see what is going on elsewhere (and vice versa with their young people).

The real enemies of this nation are those who prefer to have their livelihoods chopped away piece by piece by refusing to acknowledge that we need to create or recreate relationships that can help our restore our (mostly) proud heritage as a trading nation and start to reverse the carnage which leaving Europe has wreaked.

I would turn the question on its head and ask why your patriotism doesn't extend to wanting the best for the people of your country.
