What a top player he is , I have just watched him pop in a couple of beauties for West Brom and run the game from the midfield concluding with getting the MOM , class act , yet some of our faithful did not rate him , too slow was the cry , crab like etc etc , not dissimilar to the stick Kane used to get , it seems a trend we have with our fan base to criticise our better technical players .
No mate it's a mixture of some of our supporters who are not up on their football knowledge or some supporters who are bitter towards the departing player.
I really rated Mowatt, great ability. Thought he had a slow start at Oakwell. He went to Oxford on loan then came back and more than did himself justice in a Red shirt.
Portsmouth-v-West Brom was the "other" Cup Semi Final in 2008 when we played Cardiff,
"Odejayi, lovely through ball from Howard, he's through on his own, he must score...........
Thing with Mowatt - if he had that extra yard of pace he would probably be a Premier player.
I saw him interviewed when he was playing against Hourihane and he said something on the lines of - 2 slow left footed players.
He played in Ismaels 343 formation.
The central 2 in that formation have to be quick to tackle back - Mowatt was often found wanting and cost us goals.
If Mowatt plays then he needs players around him that can cover for his lack of speed.
But if he is allowed room he can make and score goals.
He plays well in a possession style team.
As I’m sure Kane will,
But Ismael had problems with that style at WBA.
I’d have Mowatt back here at Barnsley in the 1st Division.
But I’d want someone quicker if we went up.
I don’t want to see a team that has individuals that need to be carried.
Mowatt was a brilliant player for us.
When we signed him I thought it was a bit of a coup but obviously things didn’t start so great. After that, he was consistently our best player most games.
I agree with you and I also would love him back here , he is obviously a top championship player as he proved yesterday and does so on a regular basis so he would be ideal for us if we returned to the championship but alas I do not see him dropping to the third division until his twilight days and I do not think we will be heading back to the championship for the considerable future , shame but it is what it is .
Always liked Mowatt, one of my favourite players to wear the shirt, class act.
Pleased to see him doing well.
Yeah could be a few years before our paths cross again.
As has been mentioned in this thread, he’s never been quick so not like he will lose that and suddenly drop down the divisions. If he stays injury free and can keep his stamina levels, no reason why he can’t be a championship player for the next 5/6 years.
