Thread: New Champions League format

    New Champions League format

Looks sh1t to me. 3 wins will get you through. Set up so all the bigger names will reach the last 16. There will be a lot of dead rubbers. One good thing though is that there’s no dropping into the Europa league.

What do you think of it?

I think there’ll be fewer sell out crowds.

Not dropping into the Europa is much fairer for the teams in that competition, though.

Call me old fashioned, but I'd rather it was only for the Champions.

    Spot on.

Might as well call it what it is...a European Super League

    The cup winners cup format.

It's bit of a stretch to call it a 'Champions League' when Spurs compete in it from time to time.

Not to mention the Dross of eastern Europe!

It is what it is though. I guess there is financial merit for those weaker leagues and clubs.

Last season there were many clubs who qualified with around 3 wins (approx 9 points)

Qualified 2nd in each group - only 3 clubs achieved 12 points. PSG from our group and Copenhagen group at only achieved 8 points.

Thus more proof we were robbed in our group by that corrupt penalty in Paris!

This “dross” is actually the ones who won their leagues

Yeah Champions of Lichtenstein. You and I could get a game and hoist a trophy in most of these leagues mate.

Even Scotland, the quality of teams who play in Europe is really poor.

Not opposed it it but there are levels.

If they gave Championship clubs an opportunity to play KO qualifiers against some of the 'Champions' from the weaker leagues in Europe I'm sure you'd see some of the those teams playing in Europe.
