    Gordon

    I’m calling bull$hit on Howe’s claim he’s ’unfit because of only a 2 week pre-season’

He’s been AT LEAST as good as he ever was last season so far… he’s pi$$ed we discussed selling him to Liverpool while he was away… and I don’t blame him for a second.

Who the f**k made that decision at the club!?!

We are on the cusp of everything going to sh1t. If England come calling will Howe turn it down? I don’t think so.

If we finish mid table will Bruno, Isak, Gordon and Botman leave next summer? I’m sure they will.

I wouldn't blame gordon one bit.

if he feels used/undervalued/not as wanted as he thought he was-all of which he could reasonably feel after we tried to sell him (understandable though the reasons were)-then he will be pissed off.

    Anyone would.

And that's going to affect how he performs.

Eddie will help him get his head right, though, as he wouldn't have wanted to sell him either and he'll make it clear to Gordon how valued he is. I think Eddie is probably just trying to protect him by saying that.

OMG. The sky is falling down.

Gordon’s better performance today could’ve been because he was playing with CL quality team mates against chimpo opposition.

If we do have a sulking multi-millionaire player in the team then I hope he does move. We don’t though.

Incidentally I thought Guehi looked very good and much better than for Palace (presumably because he’s upset about the transfer links to us………?)

A lot of panic here. Gordon loves playing for the Toon - most of our players do. You think his levels aren't at the top because he wants to go back to the city he was chased out of? Get a grip people. He'll get better every week that passes and I do think the lack of pre-season has contributed to his slow start.

Did you watch Gordon in the match earlier?
Have you watched Gordon in the matches for us so far this season?

Because there is a massive difference in Gordon from just last week against Spurs (when he was putting in very little effort) compared to today and 1 weeks difference in fitness does not explain it.

We didn't touch the ball against Southampton, Bournemouth was a poor performance by all (in which Gordon scored for us) and Spurs also played with the majority of the ball.

Once fitness levels are up and we're on the front foot more in games, things will look different. He's also been swapping with Barnes, which can take an adjustment period for the wingers.

    No need to panic.

Interesting train of thought from someone else I know - they reckon that Gordon has been saving himself for this game to show everyone what Southgate was missing when he refused to play him.

Evidently he was really pissed about it in his interview.

If that is the case and he's now happier because he's shown everyone what he can do as an England player then hopefully we'll see a more typical Gordon going forward.

I’d prefer this to be the case, but i’d question if he could be sure that he would get picked to start if he wasn’t performing to the best of his ability?

I’m a massive fan of the lad, he’s a crowd favourite because of the effort and commitment he’s shown in the past… and I’m not saying he’d be wrong to be pi$$ed at the decision to consider him the expendable player.

In the interest of fairness I’d also add that from the clubs perspective we have Barnes who could step into that role if he did leave, so maybe when we take emotion out of the decision then he was the only player we could lose without a massive drop in quality in the starting 11 (with Barnes available) but it massively weakens the squad without him.

Let’s see how he is against Wolves, maybe he will feel better in himself and it will show, he’s now shown both England and our board why he’s a must keep/play player and we move forward together…but I do still think that if it hasn’t happened already then the club and Gordon need to sit down and thrash out the whole scenario and draw a line under it too.
