    Burton Albion Post Match Thoughts

Another Saturday and another draw from a winning position when we seemed to have everything under control. That's the difference at the moment between us being 17th and on the fringe of relegation or 11th and on the fringe of promotion. Plenty of games left to right the ship but at the moment is seems like mid-table mediocrity is beckoning.

    Thoughts on today's performance?

Garbage. Dodgy defence. Dodgy Goalkeepers. Misfiring so called Strikers. Non of them can cross a ball. Be lucky to avoid relegation with this lot.

Don’t think we were garbage. But…… agree about the awful crossing, corners don’t improve. Keeper could have done better. 3 strikers who struggle in front of goal. Wilkes started well but very quiet in second half. Did think he’d won it for us at the end. We have to start beating teams who are very beatable. Don’t get why Macdonald came on!?

The squad that SE built! How bad is it! Mcdonald if he's the best we can bring on then that tells you. We've no midfield to start with nobody to bring on better. Phillips could have done better with their equaliser their player got through unchallenged.

I think the bottom line is we are not a very good team, we have some decent players and a first 11 that on paper should do ok, but we do not look like a team. There are too many individuals that want the glory, Wilks was guilty of that again at least 3 times if not more, what was that when Nombe and JCH went for the same header.
We concede too many goals, and we do not take enough of our chances. Today all of this is not helped by poor substitutions, as soon as Tiehi went off our midfield was non-existent and then we took our best player in Powell off. Macdonald is not good enough for L2 never mind L1 and he made no contribution when he came on, Hugill is clearly coasting and stealing a very, very large wage. JCH is a very slow but at least he contributes up front. Wilks disappeared for long periods in the second half, this is a common pattern already. Clearly SE keeps him on in hope that he can provide a bit of magic. Hungbo should have come on for either Wilks or Nombe, he showed some sharp movement when he came on.
At least we got something from a set piece, that is some good news, but I felt they were always going to get more chances as they were faster, brighter and played some lovely football. Also, they had depth on their bench, something we lack. To be honest we have had quite an easy set of starting fixtures and we are struggling against some of these teams.
For me Evans is like Douglas they are TS yes men, they say we have a good squad, we have a very good budget for L1 all the right noises, to deflect away from TS. However, this squad lacks depth in key areas, there have been some poor signings (McWilliams, Macdonald and Jules), and it will show more each week. TS hasn’t invested in a squad that is intended to challenge; we will do well to make a top 10 finish. In fact, he hasn’t invested in a full squad at all. The failure to replace Rathbone is huge mistake and at the moment, with this squad, I can see a lower mid-table season unless they can do some good business in January. It needs to click quickly, and we need our first eleven playing most games, to get in that top half of the table.
The Birmingham game will tell us a lot and not having Kelly for that game is very bad news. He is a class act and must be wondering why he came to us when he had other options.

Average recruitment, average team, average manager.
Anyone who thinks we will challenge for promotion this season needs help.
SE should have never been brought back it’s going to set us back even further than we were.

I thought Macdonald did very well when he came on ..he made 2 or 3 great tackles to break up play... he also put some decent crosses in the box .. one was over hit .. but I thought he did well. You can't blame Phillips for there goal .. there player should have been stopped well before he got his shot away .. ..

Similar to other games, creating enough chances to win,but don`t.
Thought we played a bit more football today, didn`t just launch it forward every time, but too many times(Again),we have no width when the defenders or midfield have the ball,Hungbo and Holmes are these players but Evans doesn`t fancy them, which means they are probably toast this season.
Must say....Powell`s set pieces are mostly p*ss poor, thought he was the new "Pringle" ?
Next week will be much harder.
