    Match ratings v Chesterfield

Enjoyable game, especially first half. They had more of the play and will be disappointed with the draw but didn't ever really carve us open. As I said after Gillingham, if these are pencilled in for promotion challengers then we will be up there too.

Ratings with 6 meaning an OK performance.

Bass (6.5) - channelling his inner Slocombe a bit recently but still making good saves

    Macari (6.5) Tidy.

Platt (7) Rock solid. Breeds confidence. Love this guy.

    Bedeau (7) See above.

Gordon (7) - the bright spark going forward in the first half. Mandeville had no answer to him and crosses were pretty good.

Abbott (6.5) - put a monster shift in as usual. Good cross for Jatta's goal and some very nice one touch stuff in tight areas with Crowley and others.

Palmer (6) - not yet back to his metronomic best.

Robertson (6) - plenty of good work but tendency to be a bit casual at times. Has lost us points before with bad decisions/lapses in concentration and needs to eliminate that from his game.

Crowley (6.5) - always invilved in the game but more hit and miss than usual. Some classy moments and some to forget. As Stall said, no end product today.

    Austin (6.5) tidy.

Jatta (7) - if I were being hyper critical I would say he lost a near post header again for their second, and the corner came about because he switched off for a instant in the build up to give away the corner. But that is hyper critical because he's not a defender yet he gets through a lot of defensive work. Soaring header for his goal. Lots of running and made a nuisance of himself all game, couple of nearly moments where the ball just didn't quite run for him. His goals to games ratio demands more respect than he gets.

Sorry if I'm a broken record with this but:

Bracegirdle (4) commiserations to those who have audio commentary only - you have basically no idea what is happening on the pitch. Stubbornly refuses to finish a pointless anecdote once he's started it. Most of them are about boot colour or where he was driving to watch the cricket. Can basically only deal with one thing happening in every 30 second segment and he WILL finish describing the last thing even if something 10 times more interesting is happening on the pitch. An AI version of Charlie or Colin can't come soon enough.

    Player ratings v Chessie

Bass - Probably my MOTM, no fault for the goals and looked assured throughout with some solid saves. What a signing he has been - 7

Macari - An average performance. He does worry me in possession and often caught just out of position. No coincidence that teams focus on our right hand side - 6

Platt - Solid and didnÂ’t give much away. Bit of a shambles a la England V Greece for the first goal - 6.5

Bedeau - Our best defender today. Strong and brought the ball out well, especially in the first half - 7

Abbott - Shows glimpses of what he will more consistently do in the future, but I always feel heÂ’s going to give the ball away or just be shoved off it too easily. Some good link up play and assist in a foreign position for him. Think IÂ’d rather see him alongside Palmer in midfield to be fair - 7

Palmer - The good and the bad today. At times looked like the player we all know, then he would do something careless with the ball at other times - which were collectors items ‘before’. A bizarre cross when in a dangerous position at one point and to cross the ball in the final throws of the half was even more bizarre. Still finding his feet - 6

Robertson - Out of possession and breaking up play, really good. On the ball he gave it away, a lot, and in dangerous areas. Did play and show for some nice balls into and through midfield though - 6.5

Gordon - Think he looks better on the left than the right to be honest. First half he was a great outlet and beat his man numerous times. Second half when the whole team were struggling we barely saw him. Should have switched to the right where we were being exploited time and again - 6.5

Austin - He put a real shift in today, and got into some good dangerous positions in support. As often is the case he lacks that bit of magic to create much but having not been a fan of him before he has won me over with his attitude and work ethic alone. Another day, another two different positions - 7

Crowley - Undoubted talent but he is starting to infuriate me. How long do you want to keep the ball when other players are free - or aren’t they ‘making the right runs’ either? Slows the game down too much and just has a general sense of arrogance about the way he is currently playing. That being said, he did some great defensive work. I guess we’re starting to see the player that Morecambe and others have had, and the reason he’s playing league two football. If he had Austin’s attitude he’d be in the championship. Maybe being harsh here with a low score but he’s got to step up - 5.5

Jatta - Did what he could, well taken goal and physical presence throughout. His lack of support was terrible, sometimes massive spaces behind him where others should be helping. Desperately missing Edwards and Jones to create for him - 7

    Tsaroulla - anonymous again - 5

Didzy - Involved in the build up to the goal. Awful penÂ…fortunate enough to get an easy rebound - 6.5

Brown - One early ball into the box which created the penalty chance. Nothing else - 6

Another lacklustre display on the whole. Always feels like a win when you get a late draw butt that canÂ’t take away from what was a pretty poor performanceÂ…especially the second half. WhatÂ’s worrying is that Maynard thought we were the better team. WeÂ’re in a good position but the signs are all there that if we donÂ’t improve significantly we wonÂ’t be too 7 for long. On the plus side, we have a group of players who give everythingÂ….which is all we can ever really ask for.

Generally I don't mind Bracegirdle but he needs to stop asking Maynard for a comment about our support after every single away match. What else is he supposed to say? It's excruciating having to listen to him trot out the same lines each time and it doesn't really mean very much if he's being prompted into it.
Often feels like it's in the contact with RN that post match interviews have to last x number of minutes and the interviewer is unnecessarily dragging it out to meet the agreed time.

Bass 6 - Good handling, responsible for quite a few turn overs of possession
Macari 6 - Quiet but steady game
    Platt 7 - So dependable
Bedeau 7 - Love how his athleticism solves so many problems for us, pretty good using the ball as well today
Abbott 7 - Something of a revelation at RWB, trouble is that he's probably in our first choice CM as well
Palmer 5 - No lack of involvement but not his best day using the ball
Robertson 6 - started terribly and then might've been the best player on the pitch for last 30mins of 1st half
Gordon 7 - great positivity, it's down to the coaches and the team to do justice to the balls he puts in
Crowley 5 - he'll probably want to forget about today, some terrible outcomes at the end of his twists and turns
Austin 5 - I thought our midfield in general did their best to lose us the game today, but the rest of the team wouldn't allow it
Jatta 8 - MoM the goal was more difficult than it looked, all round play picked up well too, including defensive work

    Subs
    Tsaroulla 5 - couldn't impact
McGoldrick 7 - hopefully we can see him have a run of starts again in October
Brown 6 - helped us win the pen

Bass (6.5) - Couple of great saves kept us in the game but also some sloppy suicidal passing out from the back moments.

Macari (6.0 ) Lost his man for the goal . Ok otherwise.

Platt (7) Good all round defending.

Bedeau (7.5 ) Fast, proficient , added an attacking threat to great defending.

Gordon (7) - Had the measure of their player. Very attack minded and some good crosses.

Abbott ( 7 ) - Athletic, hungry, fast and a great cross for Jattas goal.

Palmer ( 5.5 ). Still nowhere near the Palmer of old. Far to lethargic and no vision like old.

Robertson ( 5.5 ) - Can't fault his effort but way way too many casual moments and casual passes especially put of defence.

Crowley (6.0 ) - Involved from start to finish but lacked the end product with no telling passes or decent strikes on goal.

Austin (6.5) Did a decent job and was probably the best of a bad bunch in midfield.

Jatta (7.5 ) - My MoM . Constant thorn in their side, great goal, not afraid to help out defenders. Better breaks of the ball and he would if had a second.

Didzy - 7 Put them back under pressure and got the goal.

    Others - Not much impression.

Couldn't put it better myself.Having watched matches at times with his commentary, you are aware of how little he actually tells you about the action, I have written to Radio Nottingham about this and said Adam Hassle was so much better but they insist that Notts fans like Bracegirdle. Who, for God's sake?? The man is incompetent when it comes to football commentary, don't know about cricket but he needs to stick to that!

    Most get 6.
    Platt 6+, Bedeau 6+
    Palmer 6-, Tsaroulla 6-
    Didzy 6-, Crowley 6-, Brown 5
Would've had Didzy on sooner, but had little impact. First touch not good. Poor pen. Got lucky.
Crowley held onto ball too long. Good positions wasted with greedy shooting. TV cameras on his mind.
Palmer and Robertson in same team not creative enough.
Great goal from Jatta but not much else.

Thank goodness for Radio Nottingham commentary.

Decent ratings right there, Bedeau was excellent for me, has the pace to get out of trouble and was defensively good, Robertson was a mixed bag, for 20 minutes in the first half was excellent apart from that suicide pass back to Bass, second half wasn't great, Crowley held the ball for way too long looking for the Hollywood pass or shot but was involved, Jatta was lively, very little service in the second half but troubled their defence no end... it was a lucky point in the end but just about deserved.
